PARSIPPANY, N.J. — A federal court has blocked Actavis from distributing its generic version of a drug for treating asthma, the company said.

Actavis said the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit had issued an injunction against Actavis' distribution of budesonide inhalation suspension at the request of AstraZeneca, which sells the drug under the trade name Pulmicort Respules.

NANUET, N.Y. — Allermates today announced it is introducing EpiPen, Auvi-Q and asthma inhaler carrying cases.

The cases come in colorful kid-friendly designs and include AllerMates characters. Each case comes with an emergency contact and medication information card. The EpiPen carrying case is insulated, and comes with an epinephrine auto-injector user guide. The cases, like all AllerMates products, are nickel-, lead-, latex-, BPA- and phthalate-free.

The FDA Pulmonary-Allergy Drugs Advisory Committee voted 9-4 to recommend Breo Ellipta as a long-term maintenance treatment for airflow obstruction in patients with COPD and for reduction of COPD exacerbations in patients with a history of them. The drug is a once-daily inhaler that combines fluticasone furoate and vilanterol.

WASHINGTON — A division of drug maker Teva Pharmaceutical Industries is partnering with an advocacy group focused on asthma in the launch of a new educational website about the condition.

The Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America and Teva Respiratory announced the launch of Get Smart About Asthma, which aims to increase understanding of how inflammation in the airways contributes to the disease's persistence and severity, as well as providing other educational materials.

NORTH WALES, Pa. — An inhaler for patients with bronchospasm that includes a dose counter has become available from Teva Respiratory, the company said Thursday.

The company, which is the branded respiratory division of Israeli drug maker Teva Pharmaceutical Industries, announced the available of ProAir HFA (i.e., albuterol sulfate), for patients aged 4 and older to prevent and treat bronchospasm with reversible obstructive airway disease and prevent exercise-induced bronchospasm. The inhaler received Food and Drug Administration approval in March 2012.

Giant, an Ahold-owned banner also known as Giant-Carlisle to distinguish it from fellow Ahold banner Giant Food of Landover, Md., said 48 stores in Pennsylvania would participate in GSK's "Complete the Cycle" recycle program for respiratory inhalers used to treat asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, allergies and flu.

Several cities across the country will play host to a new program from one drug maker to recycle respiratory inhalers.

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. — Several cities across the country will play host to a new program from one drug maker to recycle respiratory inhalers.

Calling it the first program of its kind in the pharmaceutical industry, GlaxoSmithKline announced Wednesday the Complete the Cycle program, which it announced last month and for which it is currently enrolling pharmacies. Inhalers usually go to landfills because they can't be recycled by curbside recyclers.

HYDERABAD, India — Dr. Reddy's Labs has launched a generic drug for treating asthma and allergies, and preventing bronchospasm during exercise, the company said.

The Indian company announced the launch of montelukast sodium oral granules in the 4-mg strength in unit-dose cartons of 30 packets.

The drug is a version of Merck's Singulair oral granules, which had sales of about $61 million during the 12-month period ended in July, according to IMS Health.
