American BioTech Supply donates refrigerators to Denver Health

A safety-net healthcare organization in Colorado got a donation of four new vaccine refrigerators at the end of a recent trade show there.

DENVER — A safety-net healthcare organization in Colorado got a donation of four new vaccine refrigerators at the end of a recent trade show there.

Summerville, S.C.-based American BioTech Supply announced the donation to Denver Health at the conclusion of the 2012 National Association of Chain Drug Stores' Pharmacy & Technology Conference, which took place in Denver from Aug. 26 to 28. Denver Health provides healthcare services to 25% of all Denver residents, or about 150,000 people, and the organization serves one-in-three children in the city.

A Colorado-based company has introduced a combination vending machine-refrigerator, the company said Wednesday.

BOULDER, Colo. — A Colorado-based company has introduced a combination vending machine-refrigerator, the company said Wednesday.

ShelfX announced the availability of the Vending Fridge, which allows customers to download an app to their mobile device and use it to scan a QR code and purchase refrigerated products, such as drinks and food. Scanning the QR code prompts the app to download, allowing the customer to create an account and enter payment information; scanning the code again unlocks the fridge.

The Food and Drug Administration has approved a new storage option for a hemophilia A treatment made by Bayer HealthCare Pharmaceuticals, the drug maker said.

WAYNE, N.J. — The Food and Drug Administration has approved a new storage option for a hemophilia A treatment made by Bayer HealthCare Pharmaceuticals, the drug maker said.

Bayer announced that Kogenate FS (antihemophilic factor [recombinant]) now can be stored at room temperature, up to 77 degrees, for up to one year. Previously, it could be stored at room temperature for three months, and most Factor VIII products must be stored in a refrigerator.
