RALEIGH, N.C. — Kerr Drug has introduced a new prescription-synchronization service, the retail pharmacy chain said Monday.

Kerr, a regional chain based in Raleigh, N.C., announced the introduction of the new Simplify My Meds synchronized prescription refill service. The service uses the chain's new central-fill center in Kerr, and the company said it hoped the program would solidify customer loyalty by increasing convenience.

RALEIGH, N.C. — Kerr Drug is launching a holiday toy and food drive for families in need, the regional chain said.

Kerr said it was responding to the difficult economy by collecting toys and food items at all its stores around North Carolina.

Collection bins were set up at the front of stores starting on Nov. 20 and will be there until Dec. 21. The Kerr Cares for Kids Foundation will give donated items to charity groups in the state that will then distribute them to needy families.

Powered by mscripts, the solution enables Kerr Drug customers to refill prescriptions, and receive pickup and dosage reminders through the convenience of their mobile phones. Smartphone users can access the store locator, weekly specials and do a quick refill by scanning the QR code on prescription bottles. A text messaging option for non-smartphone users enables patients to receive many of the same benefits.

RALEIGH, N.C. — A pharmacy automation equipment manufacturer has signed a deal with a company that makes pharmacy software.

RxMedic Systems and Health Business Systems announced Tuesday that they had signed a preferred business partner agreement. The deal will allow users of HBS' RxAxis pharmacy software system to connect with RxMedic's dispensing technology, including its ADS robot, the companies said, allowing pharmacies to be more accurate, productive and profitable.

Salix Pharmaceuticals said the FDA was still reviewing its application for crofelemer in the 125-mg strength. The agency was originally expected to take action on the drug Wednesday. Crofelemer is meant for treating noninfectious diarrhea in HIV and AIDS patients taking antiretroviral therapy.

MedPro Rx said the accreditation, from the American Commission for Health Care, also marked the first time the company had received it for specialty pharmacy services and infusion nursing services, calling ACHC accreditation a key benchmark for measuring an organization's quality.

RxMedic Systems announced Wednesday the opening of the new headquarters in Wake Forest, N.C., a suburb of Raleigh. The company said expansion of product lines created the need to move into a new location. "With our recent growth, we had just outgrown our previous location," VP David Williams said. RALEIGH, N.C. — Kerr Drug's philanthropic arm is launching a food and toy drive for the holidays, the company said Wednesday.

The Kerr Cares for Kids Foundation is placing collection bins at Kerr Drug stores, where customers can purchase and donate toys and food items. After Dec. 21, the items will be donated to local charities.

The drive follows a school supply collection in August and a Thanksgiving food collection in November that helped 90 organizations across North Carolina.

RALEIGH, N.C. — The Triangle Business Journal has named MedPro Rx to its list of the fastest-growing companies in the North Carolina Research Triangle for the fourth consecutive year, the specialty pharmacy provider said Monday.

MedPro Rx said it had ranked No. 28 on the journal's 2011 Fast 50 Award list, evaluated by PricewaterhouseCoopers. The company ranked No. 1 in 2008, No. 5 in 2009 and No. 16 in 2010.
