Gino DiGrazia, who currently serves as VP and controller of Publix's business analysis and reporting, has been promoted to VP finance. In addition to his current responsibilities for business analysis and reporting, DiGrazia assumes many of the responsibilities previously held by Kelly Underhill, director of tax and treasury, who retired from Publix on March 30.

The company said that as of May 10, the number of bags saved since mid 2007 surpassed the 2 billion mark.

Publix's 2011 United Way campaign raised $45.6 million — a 12% increase over 2010 — plus associates' per capita gifts exceeded the food industry average by 398%. Publix associates also volunteered 900,000 hours, including more than 1,500 associates serving on United Way and nonprofit boards.

Comparable-store sales experienced a 3.3% boost, while net earnings for the retailer totaled $409.4 million, compared with $398.2 million in the year-ago period, and net earnings per share rose 1 cent to 52 cents for the quarter.

Publix reported a 13.4% increase in its fourth-quarter sales to $7.2 billion, the retailer said Thursday.

LAKELAND, Fla. — Publix reported a 13.4% increase in its fourth-quarter sales to $7.2 billion, the retailer said Thursday.

Net earnings for fourth quarter 2011 were $399.5 million, compared to $342.1 million in 2010, an increase of 16.8%. Comparable-store sales for the fourth quarter increased 5.3%.

Meanwhile, earnings per share were 51 cents, up from 44 cents per share in 2010.

Publix was one of the highest-ranked brick-and-mortar retailers in a report released Tuesday by the American Customer Satisfaction Index.

ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Publix was one of the highest-ranked brick-and-mortar retailers in a report released Tuesday by the American Customer Satisfaction Index. While supermarkets overall are up 1.3% to 76, Publix remains the grocer to beat, with a score of 84.

Other highly ranked traditional retailers include Costco with an ACSI score of 83 (+1%) and Sam’s Club at 81 (+4%).

Although Walmart touts a value that's more than $139 billion, this year also marked a 2% decrease for the big box retailer, Interbrand said. Second on this year's list was Target, which holds a value of $23 billion, a 1% increase over last year.

Retailers have always been about enhancing the shopping experience, but there are two factors this year that really should underscore the importance in that customer focus. Differentiating a retail shopping trip by experience is a lot friendlier to the margins because a shopper willing to trade on shopping experience also is willing to spend a little more. And with the proliferation of social media and apps for smartphones and tablets, there has never been a more efficient means to target a message to a shopper who is physically in the aisles and making a purchase decision than today.

Research results released Tuesday by Temkin Group, which rates the customer experience of 206 large companies across 18 industries, showed that only eight companies deliver excellent customer experience.

WABAN, MASS. — Research results released Tuesday by Temkin Group, which rates the customer experience of 206 large companies across 18 industries, showed that only eight companies deliver excellent customer experience.

Sam's Club and Publix led the pack, followed by Starbucks, Subway, Chick-fil-A, Aldi, Winn-Dixie, H-E-B and credit unions.

According to the 2012 Temkin Experience Ratings, in its second year, 76 companies (37% of the total) earned "poor" or "very poor" ratings.

LAKELAND, Fla. — Third-quarter sales for Publix rose 5.5% to $6.4 billion, the Florida-based supermarket retailer announced Tuesday.

Comparable-store sales also saw an increase, rising 4.3% for the period, while net earnings totaled $311.9 million, compared with $283.2 million the in year-ago period, reflecting a 10.1% increase. Earnings per share for the retailer were 40 cents, up from 36 cents in the same period last year.

All strengths of generic lisinopril are free, Publix said, noting, however, that lisinopril-hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ) combination products are excluded from the offer. Lisinopril is designed to prevent, treat or improve symptoms of such conditions as hypertension, certain heart conditions, diabetes and certain chronic kidney conditions.

Earnings per share for the second quarter increased to 48 cents for 2011, up from 44 cents per share in 2010.

Effective Aug. 1, 2011, Publix’s stock price increased from $21.65 per share to $22.05 per share. Publix stock is not publicly traded and is made available for sale only to current Publix associates and members of its board of directors.
