Canus, a provider of goat's milk skin care products, is introducing its Caprina by Canus line of soaps, body washes and foaming milk baths to the U.S. market.

WATERBURY, Vt. — Canus, a provider of goat's milk skin care products, is introducing its Caprina by Canus line of soaps, body washes and foaming milk baths to the U.S. market. 

Canus launched Caprina in Canada in early 2009 and, starting in June, Caprina will be available in U.S. retail stores. Both Publix Super Markets with 933 of its stores across the southern United States and Hannaford's 180 locations throughout New England, will begin offering a selection of Caprina products.

Publix posted first quarter sales of $7.5 billion, representing a 6.1% increase.

LAKELAND, Fla. — Publix on Wednesday posted first-quarter sales of $7.5 billion, representing a 6.1% increase. The Easter holiday in the first quarter of 2013, which was in the second quarter of 2012, increased sales by approximately 1.3%, the grocer noted. 

Comparable-store sales for the first quarter of 2013 increased 3.9%.

One-third of supermarkets have a dietitian walking their aisles, according to a recent report published by Advertising Age. And almost 9-in-10 grocers have a dietitian housed in their corporate suites.

Is it any wonder? There's a natural synergy between pharmacy and food stores that grocers have been looking to tap in one form or another over the past decade. But now, especially as health systems and large employers become more savvy around the benefits a healthier workforce will have to their bottom lines, this is likely to transform from a supermarket patient's best-kept-secret into a must-have service.

The program will include interactive tours, one-on-one shopping assistance and nutrition counseling, among other features, according to the report. Service fees will range from $15 to $150.

Officials with Harris Teeter recently confirmed that the 208-store chain will consider offers from potential buyers.

Publix on Friday recorded fiscal 2012 sales of $27.5 billion, up 1.9%.

LAKELAND, Fla. — Publix on Friday recorded fiscal 2012 sales of $27.5 billion, up 1.9%. However, 2012 year-end sales included a 52-week period, versus 2011 year-end sales that were tracked over a 53-week period. Excluding that extra week, sales for 2012 would have been up by 3.8%. Same-store sales were up 2.2% for the year.

Several pharmacy retailers got top place in a recent consumer satisfaction survey.

ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Several pharmacy retailers got top place in a recent consumer satisfaction survey.

A report released Tuesday by the American Customer Satisfaction Index ranked Rite Aid at the top among drug store chains, with a score of 77, a 3% improvement over last year. Walgreens gained 1%, for a score of 76, while CVS ranked 75, a 3% gain. The survey noted that CVS hit a low two years ago due to cost-cutting efforts.

Fortune magazine has released its list of the 100 best companies to work for this year, and a number of retailers and suppliers made the cut.

NEW YORK — Fortune magazine has released its list of the 100 best companies to work for this year, and a number of retailers and suppliers made the cut.

Among retailers, Wegman's Food Markets came in at fifth place, with 8.3% job growth. Nugget Market, a supermarket chain based in Sacramento, Calif., ranked 37th; Whole Foods ranked 71st; and Publix Super Markets ranked 77th.

Among suppliers, Millennium: The Takeda Oncology Company, ranked 20th; Genentech ranked 36th; and Novo Nordisk ranked 48th. Confectionary manufacturer Mars ranked 95th.

WASHINGTON — Several retailers got top scores from a gay-rights organization for their efforts to prevent discrimination against and to include lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender employees.

The Human Rights Campaign released its 2013 Corporate Equality Index, which gives companies ratings of up to 100% based on their policies regarding LGBT employees and also released a buyer's guide for LGBT consumers.

AUSTIN, Texas — SoloHealth on Wednesday announced that its SoloHealth Station digital kiosk has seen consumer engagement rise more than 200% since late summer. To date, 5 million consumers have interacted with the kiosk, up from 2.5 million in late August. Additionally, daily consumer usage has increased three fold, going from 10,000 per day at the end of August to approximately 35,000 today.

Customers may donate any amount by adding it to their grocery totals when checking out at Publix registers. Publix is entering the North Carolina market.

LAKELAND, Fla. — Publix is entering the North Carolina market.

The company said its first store, which will be part of a new division based in Charlotte, will be located in Ballantyne, N.C., and has tentative plans to open in 2014. Publix said it is looking ahead to continued growth within North Carolina, along with its current operating areas of Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama and Tennessee.

Publix on Wednesday posted sales of $6.8 billion for second quarter 2012, up 3.2%.

LAKELAND, Fla. — Publix on Wednesday posted sales of $6.8 billion for second quarter 2012, up 3.2%. Comparable-store sales for the second quarter increased 1.9%.

The amounts are based on unaudited reports that will be filed Aug. 9 with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, the grocer reported.

Effective Aug. 1, Publix’s stock price decreased from $22.70 per share to $22.00 per share. Publix stock is not publicly traded and is made available for sale only to current Publix associates and members of its board of directors.

WABAN, Mass. — Publix, Hy-Vee, H-E-B, Sam's Club, Winn-Dixie, ShopRite and Giant Eagle were among the highest-rated companies for customer service, according to new research from the Temkin Group.

Among the winners, grocery chains were the only industry to earn a "strong" rating. Retailers, fast food chains, appliance makers and investment firms rounded out the top five. But consumers gave very low ratings to TV service providers and Internet service providers.
