The 2013 sales numbers reflect a strong 2012-2013 cough-cold season and the relaunch of Tylenol, Excedrin and Motrin.

MyFreeTaxes provides free federal and state tax preparation and filing assistance, both online and in-person, to eligible households earning $58,000 or less a year.

According to a Harris Poll released Tuesday, 70% of Americans believe it is likely that the government will shut down again in January, while just 21% believe it is unlikely to shut down.

NEW YORK — According to a Harris Poll released Tuesday, 70% of Americans believe it is likely that the government will shut down again in January, while just 21% believe it is unlikely to shut down. Republicans are more likely than both Democrats and Independents to say it is likely there will be a shutdown in January (79% versus 64% and 67%, respectively).

A bill passed by the New York state legislature will require baby boomers visiting healthcare providers to be offered a hepatitis C screening.

ALBANY, N.Y. — A bill passed by the New York state legislature will require baby boomers visiting healthcare providers to be offered a hepatitis C screening.

The bill, S2750A/A1286, sponsored by Republican state Senate Health Committee chairman Kemp Hannon, was backed by AARP and requires those born between 1945 and 1965 to be offered a screening test. Many baby boomers across the state have hepatitis C without knowing it, and an estimated 200,000 New Yorkers are living with the disease, according to the organization.

WASHINGTON — The U.S. Senate on Monday passed the Marketplace Fairness Act, which would enable states to collect sales tax on online transactions, to widespread applause from big-box retail. If passed the act would remove the up-to 7% price advantage out-of-state online retailers have over brick-and-click or brick-and-mortar retailers operating and collecting sales taxes within the state. Almost 3-in-4 women surveyed supplement their diets (74%) versus 65% of men, and 81% of consumers older than 55 years reported supplementing versus 72% of consumers between the ages of 35 years and 54 years, according to an online survey of more than 900 AccentHealth viewers conducted in late 2012. As many as 70% of the generation of respondents between the ages of 18 years and 34 years reported they take vitamins and/or supplements.

According to "Nutritional Supplements in the U.S.," a report released earlier this week from Packaged Facts, supplement sales rose 7% to $11.5 billion in 2012, and are forecasted to reach $15.5 billion by 2017.

ROCKVILLE, Md. — According to "Nutritional Supplements in the U.S.," a report released earlier this week from Packaged Facts, supplement sales rose 7% to $11.5 billion in 2012, and are forecasted to reach $15.5 billion by 2017.

The report cited a number of factors, including a recovering economy that should have more consumers picking up on supplementing again, the aging baby boomer and a growing Hispanic population that is heavily indexed as supplement users.
