CINCINNATI — Procter & Gamble’s Head & Shoulders has announced that, for the 2011 NFL season, Troy Polamalu and his iconic hair will be immortalized in wax at Madame Tussauds, which displays waxworks of notable figures.

Polamalu, who has been growing his hair for nearly a decade to honor his Samoan roots, is marking his third year as a spokesman for Head & Shoulders.

Most people today know the health benefits associated with probiotic use — a 2010 MaCorr Research consumer survey reported that 73% of consumers correctly identified probiotic use, up from only 47% in 2007 — and that’s thanks in large part to the educational efforts of Procter & Gamble with its Align launch two years ago, and prior to that, Danone with its Activia yogurt launch.

P&G said that the lineup of bar soaps, body washes and liquid hand soap sold under Ivory, a 132-year-old brand, will feature new packaging that includes a vibrant new color scheme and redesign that complements the current Ivory product offerings, P&G said.

BETHEL, Conn., and NEW YORK — Procter & Gamble's Duracell brand announced a joint venture with wireless charger company Powermat.

As part of the strategic alliance between Duracell and Powermat, the companies will deliver best-in-class wireless power solutions. Additionally, P&G also expects to make an equity investment in Powermat.

The joint venture is expected to commence next year, the companies said.

According to SymphonyIRI Group, toothpaste sales for the 52 weeks ended Aug. 7 at food, drug and mass (excluding Walmart) rose nearly 5% to $1.35 billion. Those toothpastes that experienced the greatest growth were those that touted such benefits as whitening and easing tooth sensitivity.

CINCINNATI — Procter & Gamble's Charmin brand broke the Guinness World Record for the world's largest toilet roll.

Charmin said on Friday, which marks National Toilet Paper Day, that the roll measures more than 8 ft. high and a diameter for more than 9 ft. wide and is made entirely of Charmin toilet tissue. The roll was created at P&G's Paper Products company, located outside of Cape Girardeau, Mo., and transported to P&G's headquarters in Cincinnati for the unveiling.
