Price Chopper, QuickCare and Ellis Medicine have teamed up to open QuickCare walk-in clinics in Price Chopper stores in Latham, N.Y. and Malta, N.Y.

LATHAM, N.Y. —- Price Chopper, QuickCare and Ellis Medicine have teamed up to open QuickCare walk-in clinics in Price Chopper stores in Latham, N.Y. and Malta, N.Y.

The three organizations created the Capital Region partnership to offer residents access to more convenient and efficient healthcare. QuickCare, staffed by an Ellis Medicine nurse practitioner, physician or physician assistant, are walk-in health centers that offer patients immediate help for common ailments and provide some well-care and screening services.

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. — Price Chopper Supermarkets and CDPHP have joined forces to provide community access to health services and screenings at new health stations, which are located in six Price Chopper locations in Upstate New York.

The stations will provide free blood pressure, weight, heart rate, and blood oxygen and temperature readings. Additionally, patients will have the opportunity to create a Personal Health Assessment that can be printed at the station or at PriceChopper.com.

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. — Price Chopper is calling out products that tout value through a new display concept.

The company said its Xtreme Values concept will showcase deeply discounted items in specially merchandised areas of Price Chopper stores. The concept will feature Price Chopper's private-label brand, Clear Value, along with "an ever-changing assortment of opportunity buys, limited-edition products, lesser-known brands, truckload sales and closeouts, as well as not-seen-before deals on corporate and national brand products."

Jerel Golub will become president and CEO of the parent company of Price Chopper Supermarkets on Jan. 1, the company said.

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. — Jerel Golub will become president and CEO of the parent company of Price Chopper Supermarkets on Jan. 1, the company said.

Golub Corp. said Golub would assume leadership of the 128-store chain after a nearly 30-year career with Price Chopper. Current CEO and chairman Neil Golub, who served as president from 1982 to 2010, will continue as executive chairman. The company also is appointing Scott Grimmett, formerly president of Safeway's Denver division, as EVP and COO.

Price Chopper is giving free flu vaccines to victims of Hurricane Irene, the supermarket chain said.

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. — Price Chopper is giving free flu vaccines to victims of Hurricane Irene, the supermarket chain said.

Price Chopper, which was the first supermarket pharmacy in New York to certify pharmacists to administer flu shots, is sponsoring free flu vaccination clinics at a local church in Schoharie, N.Y. The first clinic was on Saturday, and another will follow this coming Saturday. Participants also will receive free deli lunches. Other clinics will take place across the six states in which the chain operates, though the company did not give details.

INDIANAPOLIS — Marsh Supermarkets has created a new executive position that will focus on merchandising support, including pricing, space management, corporate brands and business intelligence.

The retailer said that retail veteran David Siegel will be Marsh's SVP merchandising and marketing strategic initiatives.

Siegel joins the company from Schenectady, N.Y.-based Price Chopper.

Marsh operates 72 Marsh Supermarkets, 3 O'Malia's Food Markets and 22 MainStreet Market stores in Indiana and Ohio.

INDIANAPOLIS — A regional supermarket chain with stores in Indiana and Ohio has appointed a new CEO, according to a local report.

The Middletown Journal, an Ohio-based newspaper, said former Price Chopper EVP Joseph Kelley was named chairman, president and CEO of Marsh Supermarkets.

Marsh operates 78 Marsh Supermarkets and 3 O'Malia's Food Markets, as well as 16 MainStreet Market locations in Indiana and Ohio. The company also boasts 41 pharmacy locations, according to the company's website.

NEW YORK — A weight-loss supplement has gained retail distribution in Weis Markets.

Bainbridge & Knight said its Lichi superfruit diet supplement, which is derived from 100% pure lychee berries and contains 17 active natural ingredients, will be available at Weis this month. The supermarket retailer operates stores in Pennsylvania, Maryland, New York, New Jersey and West Virginia.

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. — Supermarket chain Price Chopper will buy out an independent pharmacy in Malta, N.Y., according to media reports.

News media in upstate New York reported that Price Chopper would buy Apple Community Pharmacy and hire all of its 15 employees.

The supermarket chain will operate its pharmacy at the same location as Apple and offer the same programs and services it offers at its own stores, pending completion of the pharmacy at its store in Malta.
