TARRYTOWN, N.Y. — The booming 2012-2013 cough-cold season may not have come with a fresh set of challenges for the 2013-2014 season. Retailers who had to beef up their cold and flu remedy supplies in the latter half of the season may not need to order as heavily over the summer as they may have in the past. A late start to the allergy season also is reducing the need for cough-cold stock.

IRVINGTON, N.Y. — Prestige Brands on Monday announced the home stretch for its consumer-created jingle-development contest for its Luden's cough drop brand. Playing off of the theme “Surprisingly Soothing, Simply Delicious!” online voting for the top 10 finalists to determine the grand prize winner in the La La Luden’s contest runs through Aug. 17.

Ten finalists have been selected and their videos are now up on Luden’s website for viewing and voting.

Prestige Brands will be adding 17 former GSK brands to its stable of legacy brands that already includes Luden’s and Dramamine. The company recently identified the five key GSK-acquired brands that Prestige will be focusing on in terms of both marketing support and new product development — BC, Goody’s, Debrox, Gaviscon and Beano.

IRVINGTON, N.Y. — Prestige Brands on Thursday morning announced the launch of Dramamine for Kids, noting that 34% of households (with children between the ages of 2 years and 12 years) have a child with motion sickness. According to the company, it is estimated that one-third of moms currently are using a Dramamine adult formula but would prefer a pediatric product.

For all 17 brands, Prestige paid a total of $660 million in cash plus a customary post-closing inventory adjustment under the original terms of the agreements.

The former GSK brands represent approximately $200 million in annual revenues, which is projected to push Prestige annual revenues above $600 million, Prestige stated in an investor presentation in December.

Among the brands Prestige acquired are the pain relievers BC, Goody's and Ecotrin brands; digestive brands Beano, Gaviscon, Phazyme, Tagamet and Fiber Choice; and the Sominex sleep aid brand.
