JERUSALEM — Teva Pharmaceutical Industries will spend up to $165 million to buy a company developing a drug to prevent viral respiratory infections.

Teva said it would acquire MicroDose Therapeutx for $40 million, plus up to $125 million in milestone payments and sales milestones and royalties from its lead product, MDT-637, an inhaled treatment for respiratory syncytial virus, or RSV.

ELMSFORD, N.Y. — BioScrip will acquire a Cincinnati-based home infusion company for $223 million, BioScrip said Monday.

FOREST HILLS, N.Y. — Nina Shamayeva, owner of Austin Pharmacy in Forest Hills, N.Y., is launching a health initiative aimed at adults to "Help America be Pain-Free."

Austin Pharmacy is a compounding pharmacy that provides the service to create different mixtures and proportions of ingredients that make up a prescription. Generic medications do not necessarily work well with all body conditions, and thus a compounding pharmacy could tailor-make the medication such that it works specifically for an individual.

Attendees of this year’s McKesson ideaShare 2013 will have access to more than 30 accredited continuing pharmacy education courses that offer invaluable insights into the latest thinking and best practices from experts in clinical services, new drug therapies, marketing, merchandising, financial management and succession planning. The continuing education at McKesson ideaShare 2013, which is provided by the Collaborative Education Institute, will be offered June 26 to June 29.

 ALEXANDRIA, Va. — The National Community Pharmacists Association commended Texas Gov. Rick Perry for signing into law two significant pieces of legislation in support of Texas small business independent community pharmacies: HB 1358, legislation that provides common sense standards to pharmacy audits conducted by pharmacy benefit managers, and SB 1106, which provides transparency in generic maximum allowable costs, or MACs, for Medicaid plans.

NEWTON, Mass. — McKesson on Thursday announced seven new clients for its Clear Coverage decision support solution in fiscal year 2013, with an additional seven completing the implementation process. 

New clients, such as Molina Healthcare, are now realizing the benefits of Clear Coverage, which blends coverage, medical appropriateness and provider network intelligence into a single decision stream to support evidence-based, appropriate-care delivery. 

DUBLIN — Irish drug maker Elan Corp. said Friday it was looking to sell itself off to a New York-based company that invests in drug royalties after rejecting a previous offer.

The company said it would start a process to be acquired by Royalty Pharma, but that shareholders should not put their shares up for sale into another, hostile takeover attempt by Royalty, in which Royalty offered more than $7.7 billion, or $13 per share, plus $2.50 in milestone payments. Elan has rejected that offer, made last week.

PARSIPPANY, N.J. — Drug maker Actavis is working with nonprofit pharmaceutical company Medicines360 to make low-cost intrauterine devices available to women, the two said.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Emdeon has bought a company that provides pharmacy benefit and related services to state Medicaid agencies, Emdeon said.

Emdeon announced the acquisition of Goold Health Systems. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

"The acquisition expands Emdeon's position in the government pharmacy benefit administration market while enhancing our existing pharmacy benefit operations," Emdeon EVP pharmacy services Kevin Mahoney said.
