NEW YORK — A pharmacy graduate school in New York has received full accreditation.

ALEXANDRIA, Va. — The National Association of Chain Drug Stores Foundation on Thursday announced the 2012-2013 inaugural class for the foundation’s Faculty Scholars Program. 

Launched earlier this year, the Faculty Scholars Program is designed to educate assistant professors from U.S. schools and colleges of pharmacy about designing, implementing and publishing community-pharmacy-based patient care research. Educational programming was designed in collaboration with the University of Pittsburgh, under the leadership of Melissa Somma McGivney.

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — The doctor of pharmacy program at Marshall University has received a preliminary accreditation status that the university said was a step toward full accreditation.

Marshall president Stephen Kopp said Wednesday the program had received precandidate accreditation status from the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education's board of directors.

NEW YORK — The first new pharmacy school in New York in almost 70 years, and the only one in Manhattan, graduated its first class in a commencement ceremony at the New York Academy of Medicine on Friday.

The Touro College of Pharmacy, located in Harlem, announced the graduation of 63 students of the class of 2012. The school, part of the larger Touro College and University system, opened in 2008.

NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. — Manchester College has tapped Dave McFadden to serve as the dean of the university's pharmacy school.

McFadden, who has served as interim dean for the past five months, has more than 20 years of higher education leadership experience and has led enrollment, strategic planning and marketing initiatives, as well as the name change to University scheduled for July 1 at Manchester College, the school said.

ALEXANDRIA, Va. — The National Association of Chain Drug Stores announced the recipients of the NACDS RxImpact “U” Advocacy Award during the fourth annual NACDS RxImpact Day on Capitol Hill this week.

The annual award is presented to pharmacy school students and pharmacy school campuses in recognition of their active engagement in pro-patient and pro-pharmacy grassroots advocacy.

RALEIGH, N.C. — A regional retail pharmacy chain and a nearby school of pharmacy will collaborate on a study to evaluate the implementation of a pharmacogenetic program in a community pharmacy setting.

Kerr Drug announced Friday that it would work with the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill's Eshelman School of Pharmacy to explore the feasibility of a program for Sanofi's and Bristol-Myers Squibb's blood-thinning drug Plavix (clopidogrel bisulfate).

ADA, Ohio — Ohio Northern University's Raabe College of Pharmacy gave three alumni its Distinguished Alumni Awards last week.

ALEXANDRIA, Va. — The charitable arm of the National Association of Chain Drug Stores announced 12 academic institutions have received funding to expand community pharmacy residencies for recent pharmacy school graduates.

The NACDS Foundation said that the following schools received funding for the Community Pharmacy Residency Expansion Project:

• Concordia University;

• Creighton University;

• Ferris State University;

• Midwestern University (Glendale);

ALEXANDRIA, Va. — Teams of pharmacy students from three universities have been named finalists in the Good Neighbor Pharmacy National Community Pharmacists Association's Pruitt-Schutte Student Business Plan Competition, NCPA announced Tuesday. The finalists are from Idaho State University College of Pharmacy, University at Buffalo College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, and University of Oklahoma College of Pharmacy.

ALEXANDRIA, Va. — Purdue University, the University of Missouri and the University of North Carolina were the beneficiaries of a $1.5 million grant program designed to expand community pharmacy residency programs for recent school graduates.

The National Association of Chain Drug Stores Foundation announced on Thursday that the academic institutions were the first three beneficiaries of the Community Pharmacy Residency Expansion Project (Community PREP) grant program.

For this first round of awards, the recipients were:

NEW YORK — Long Island University’s Arnold & Marie Schwartz College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences celebrated its 125th anniversary with a founding day celebration Thursday.

The college, originally founded as the Brooklyn College of Pharmacy in 1886, has graduated more than 20,000 students. The celebration included special presentations and a cake made by master baker and host of the TLC reality show “Cake Boss,” Bartolo Valastro.
