ALEXANDRIA, Va. — The National Association of Chain Drug Stores Foundation has announced 15 additional academic institutions selected for the Community Pharmacy Residency Expansion Project (Community PREP).

The $1.5 million educational grant program, established in 2010, is designed to expand post-graduate community pharmacy residency opportunities for recent pharmacy school graduates. 

The following academic institutions will receive a $50,000 educational grant:

The School of Pharmacy at the University of Southern California announced on Wednesday that it will double its presence in clinics and medical homes that deliver healthcare services to the uninsured, the poor and the homeless.

LOS ANGELES — The School of Pharmacy at the University of Southern California announced on Wednesday that it will double its presence in clinics and medical homes that deliver healthcare services to the uninsured, the poor and the homeless.

The school began providing clinical pharmacy services in safety-net clinics in 2002 and currently is a key partner with 12 such clinics in Southern California. The new USC Medication Therapy and Safety Initiative aims to increase the school's coverage to 24 clinics and medical homes by 2013.

ALEXANDRIA, Va. — The charitable arm of the National Association of Chain Drug Stores announced 12 academic institutions have received funding to expand community pharmacy residencies for recent pharmacy school graduates.

The NACDS Foundation said that the following schools received funding for the Community Pharmacy Residency Expansion Project:

  • Concordia University;

  • Creighton University;

  • Ferris State University;

  • Midwestern University (Glendale);

Pharmacist Society — which Drug Store News introduced at the National Association of Chain Drug Stores’ 2010 Pharmacy and Technology Conference in San Diego and launched in November 2010 under a partnership with professional networking website developer Skipta — has grown to more than 35,000 members and combines networking, job searching, continuing education and other services in a regulated user environment.

LAS VEGAS — Good Neighbor Pharmacy last week recognized five Good Neighbor Pharmacy operators at the National Healthcare Conference and Exposition.

Liss Pharmacy in Newark, N.J., was named the 2011 Good Neighbor Pharmacy “Pharmacy of the Year” for its commitment to the Newark community. Led by owner Matthew Parisi, the pharmacy has created programs in conjunction with both the city of Newark and the Heinz Family Philanthropies to provide pharmaceutical services and generic medications at a reasonable cost, for example.

ALEXANDRIA, Va. — Purdue University, the University of Missouri and the University of North Carolina were the beneficiaries of a $1.5 million grant program designed to expand community pharmacy residency programs for recent school graduates.

The National Association of Chain Drug Stores Foundation announced on Thursday that the academic institutions were the first three beneficiaries of the Community Pharmacy Residency Expansion Project (Community PREP) grant program.

The NACDS Foundation said that Community PREP, which first was announced in December 2010, will award 15 grants to nonprofit academic institutions, totaling $50,000 each.

Randall Myers, a Carey, Ohio-based pharmacist who owns Harry's Pharmacy, joined CPF, which provides support funding for projects associated with community pharmacies in which pharmacists desire to advance their scope of services to assist patients with their disease state management and medication therapy management needs.

ALEXANDRIA, Va. — The education, research and charitable affiliate of the National Association of Chain Drug Stores announced its contribution of $1.5 million in grants to expand the availability of Community Pharmacy Residency Programs for pharmacy graduates.

CPRPs allow pharmacy residents to focus on providing direct patient care, developing patient care services with pharmacist preceptor oversight, the NACDS Foundation said. The NACDS Foundation seeks to jumpstart 30 new community pharmacy residencies nationwide — a 25% increase in total residency positions.
