WEST DES MOINES, Iowa — Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield has named Hy-Vee's specialty pharmacy division its preferred provider of specialty pharmacy benefits for members, Hy-Vee said.

Starting Oct. 1, Hy-Vee Pharmacy Solutions will provide services to Wellmark members with disease states requiring such complex drug regimens as cancer, hepatitis, multiple sclerosis, Crohn's disease and others.

Giancamilli, who will serve in an advisory role until May 2012 following his retirement in February, will be succeeded by Frank Scorpiniti, who joined the company in April as COO.

Certain plans under Medicare are utilizing a new prepaid card of sorts to allow members to pay for their OTC medicines. The American Pharmacists Association has appointed Stacia Spridgen as director of its federal pharmacy program, the group said Wednesday.

WASHINGTON — The American Pharmacists Association has appointed Stacia Spridgen as director of its federal pharmacy program, the group said Wednesday.

The APhA said Spridgen, a retired Army lieutenant colonel, would be responsible for all aspects of the APhA's federal pharmacy programs, including coordination of the annual Federal Forum and oversight management of the Department of Defense Joint Forces Pharmacy Seminar, fostering a collaborative alliance between the APhA and the federal pharmacy sector and developing relationships in the pharmaceutical industry.

CINCINNATI — Kroger has announced that it is offering early flu vaccinations for patients within its 1,900 pharmacy locations nationwide and at the 79 Little Clinic locations in select stores.

The flu shots are administered by Kroger pharmacists or Little Clinic nurse practitioners or physician assistants.
