WASHINGTON — The Pharmacy Technician Certification Board will introduce its updated certification examination later this year, the group said Thursday.

The PTCB said the updated exam, scheduled for introduction on Nov. 1, would measure the knowledge pharmacy techs need to effectively support pharmacists and advance patient safety. Candidates can take the updated exam if they apply on or after Nov. 1.

Biopharma-Reporter.com quoted an FDA spokeswoman as saying "efforts to undermine trust in these products" were cause for worry and did not serve the interests of patients.

A consumer group is urging the Pennsylvania state legislature to increase access to vaccines for children and teenagers.

PITTSBURGH — A consumer group is urging the Pennsylvania state legislature to increase access to vaccines for children and teenagers.

Pharmacy Choice and Access Now said Wednesday it was encouraging the Pennsylvania General Assembly to support House Bill 776, which would pharmacists to help increase immunization rates among children ages 7 years and older, with parental consent. The bill, sponsored by Republican state Rep. Seth Grove, has received support from educators, healthcare professionals and students.

NEW YORK — The Michigan Primary Care Association has given pharmacy manager Nancy Bauer an award for distinguished service, according to published reports.

According to Mlive, the MPCA Distinguished Service Award recognizes dedication, commitment and outstanding service on behalf of Michigan Health Center patients. Bauer is pharmacy manager at the Center for Family Health.

The Center for Family Health is one of the state's 35 health center organizations operating more than 220 sites across the state and serving more than 600,000 patients, according to Mlive.

Goodbye to a friend of pharmacy.

In this case, we’re not talking about an individual; we’re talking about a fledgling company called RxAlly, and about its grand but ultimately unsuccessful plan to combine the collective strengths of thousands of pharmacies to advance a higher and more engaged form of pharmacy practice. So, as much as anything, we’re saying goodbye to an idea.

The Specialty Pharmacy Certification Board is requesting that applicants for its credentialing program for specialty pharmacists send in their applications by Sept. 15, the group said Friday.

ALEXANDRIA, Va. — The Specialty Pharmacy Certification Board is requesting that applicants for its credentialing program for specialty pharmacists send in their applications by Sept. 15, the group said Friday.

The SPCB said the due date applies to the first round of Certified Specialty Pharmacy tests, which will be administered in October, and pharmacists can apply online for the test.

In a statement on its website, RxAlly said its board had voted to close the company, effective Friday after 18 months in operation. Calls to the organization were not answered.

HARTFORD, Conn. and WOONSOCKET, R.I. — Aetna has announced a new pilot program, dubbed the Aetna Rx Home Success Program, which is supported by CVS Caremark.

The Aetna Rx Home Success Program works with CVS Caremark pharmacists and Dovetail Health to support Aetna members who are taking multiple medications. The program helps members manage their health through personal support from a pharmacist — including offering in-home consultations — and focuses on those who have recently been discharged from a hospital, nursing home or rehabilitation facility.

FLINT, Mich. — Diplomat Specialty Pharmacy has appointed Cheryl Allen to VP business development and industry relations, the company said Tuesday.

Diplomat said that in the new role, Allen would oversee new business development, including industry partnerships and relations. Allen has worked in independent, compounding and specialty pharmacy, managed care consulting and healthcare information technology for more than 20 years.
