RANCHO MIRAGE, Calif. — A nonprofit organization based in California is looking for a volunteer pharmacist for a medical mission to Peru.

IMSHelps has assembled a team of nearly 100 doctors, surgeons, nurses, dentists and support personnel who will visit Huacho, Peru, for a 10-day medical mission, starting Aug. 8. The group said it was specifically looking for pharmacists who had previously volunteered on international medical missions and who were willing to travel without a spouse or significant other.

While covering the bust of a counterfeiting operation in Lima, Peru, Gupta ­— himself a doctor — said he couldn’t tell the drugs were fake. But luckily, several technologies have been developed in recent years that allow quick detection of counterfeits. One company developing such a technology is Mobile Data Systems.

Sugar and chalk. That’s what Pfizer researchers found in a pill that was supposed to be Cytotec but was, in fact, a crude knock-off seized from a counterfeit drug lab in Peru. The "60 Minutes" segment came as no surprise to Drug Store News, which has argued for many years that drug counterfeiting is the key reason lawmakers need to forget the recurring pipe dream they share that rogue Internet sites and drug reimportation is a legitimate solution to rising healthcare costs.

Portneuf Medical Center has teamed up with Bellin Health FastCare to operate two retail clinics...

POCATELLO, Idaho Portneuf Medical Center has teamed up with Bellin Health FastCare to operate two retail clinics in Walmart stores in Pocatello and Blackfoot, Idaho, according to a report by the Idaho State Journal.

 

The partnership, effective as of Sept. 1, will offer treatment for such acute ailments as sore throats, pink eye and allergies. Next month, another FastCare is slated to open in a Walmart in Peru, Ill.
