SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — H. D. Smith on Thursday named Ed Bissler corporate VP sales. Bissler comes to H. D. Smith from McKesson, where he most recently directed the strategic sales and service functions for many of that company’s national accounts.

In his new role at H. D. Smith, Bissler will be responsible for overseeing the company’s overall sales function and implementing the strategic direction of the sales team as H. D. Smith targets new growth sectors.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — The Global Market Development Center earlier this week named Mark Mechelse to the role of director of industry insights.

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — H. D. Smith, the fourth-largest national pharmaceutical wholesaler, on Tuesday named Mark de Bruin to the post of corporate VP managed care.

In his new position at H. D. Smith, 29-year industry veteran de Bruin will be responsible for the company's third party network, creating and maintaining an alliance of prescription and healthcare service providers.

WILMINGTON, Del. — Dr. Fresh, a maker of personal care products, perhaps best known for its FireFly flashing toothbrush for children, has announced that a Wilmington dentist has won recognition for making pediatric dental services available to uninsured, needy local families.

The NCPA Advocacy Center will unite the association’s government affairs, grassroots, pharmacy benefit manager transparency, professional affairs and public affairs programs to enhance NCPA advocacy efforts and ensure that they have the maximum impact possible.

CHICAGO — New federal and state regulations are expanding the role of the pharmacist, noted Richard Ashworth, Walgreens VP pharmacy services, during a live “Health Chat” hosted by Chicago Tribune reporter Bruce Japsen on Thursday afternoon. And that’s of benefit to patients at large, especially as “community pharmacy is located in the local communities and [is] a natural extension of the healthcare system,” Ashworth wrote.
