Ana Marie Acosta, the daughter of Stater Bros. VP pharmacy John Acosta, has been named the 2014 Rose Queen by the Pasadena, Calif., Tournament of Roses Association, the 166-store supermarket chain said.

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. — Ana Marie Acosta, the daughter of Stater Bros. VP pharmacy John Acosta, has been named the 2014 Rose Queen by the Pasadena, Calif., Tournament of Roses Association, the 166-store supermarket chain said.

Acosta, 17, attends the Polytechnic School in Pasadena and is head of the school's varsity equestrian team.

Acosta was named the 96th Rose Queen in a ceremony at First Church of the Nazarene, chosen from more than 900 young women in the area who participated in the Royal Court tryouts.

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. — Coupons.com on Thursday announced the appointment of former Safeway executive Mir Aamir as the company’s CFO and COO. He will oversee all financial and accounting functions.  

The roles are presently managed by Richard Hornstein, the company’s CFO and general counsel. Hornstein will continue in the role of general counsel and chief legal officer, a role he has held for the past two-and-a-half years. Aamir, in addition to the finance functions, will also oversee the company’s operations and the international business.

WASHINGTON — A U.S. Air Force master sergeant has been named the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board's Certified Pharmacy Technician of the Year, the PTCB said.

The PTCB announced that master sergeant Jessica Hughes, the non-commissioned officer in charge of pharmacy support at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, in New Jersey, was selected as the PTCB CPhT of the Year. The finalists also included Rico Powell and Linda Henson.

The gifts consisted of $11,000 to the Marshall University School of Pharmacy and a $13,000 for the Fruth Pharmacy Scholarship.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. — The president of Indiana's Manchester University will retire next summer and has named the university's pharmacy dean as her successor.

The university, based in Fort Wayne, Ind., said Jo Young Switzer would retire on June 30, 2014 and had named EVP and College of Pharmacy dean Dave McFadden as president, effective the day after. Switzer is Manchester University's first female president.

PITTSBURGH — Generic drug maker Mylan has appointed Jacek Glinka as president of its European division, the company said Thursday.

Glinka's appointment becomes effective Dec. 2. Before joining Mylan, he was CEO of Polpharma Group from 2003 to 2006 and again from 2009 until this year, helping the company expand from a small, local company to a leading drug company in central and eastern Europe, the Caucasus and Central Asia. The company became a leader in the Polish market and doubled its sales to more than $1 billion between 2011 and 2013.

The Lund Report, an online publication that covers Oregon's healthcare system, reported that Gary Schnabel was stepping down to pursue "other interests." Schnabel turned 65 years old this month and has lead the board for 19 years.
