An industry veteran, LaPorte has more than 25 years of experience in sales, sales management, sales training and marketing in the healthcare industry.

PIERRE, S.D. — Lewis Drug's VP professional services William "Bill" Ladwig has been selected as the recipient of the 2011 Hustead Award by the South Dakota Pharmacists Association, Lewis Drug has announced.

Ladwig, who has worked for Lewis Drug for 33 years, was selected by his peers in honor of the dedication and service he has shown toward the profession of pharmacy. The award was presented to Ladwig at the association's recent 125th Annual Convention at the Sioux Falls Convention Center in Sioux Falls, S.D.

Activist investor Bill Ackman, and his Pershing Square Capital Management investment fund, has become the largest owner of Family Dollar stock, according to a regulatory filing.

MATTHEWS, N.C. — Activist investor Bill Ackman, and his Pershing Square Capital Management investment fund, has become the largest owner of Family Dollar stock, according to a regulatory filing.

The filing noted that Ackman has bought a stake of 8.9%.

The news follows just a few months after the retailer turned down an active takeover bid by Nelson Peltz's Trian Fund.

Whole Foods has expanded its board of directors.

AUSTIN, Texas — Whole Foods has expanded its board of directors.

The natural foods supermarket retailer said that it has elected Nordstrom president Blake Nordstrom to its board, where he will serve on the audit committee.

Nordstrom will serve until the company's annual meeting in March 2012, at which time he will be included on the shareholder ballot, Whole Foods said. With Nordstrom's appointment, Whole Foods' board now has 12 members.

CINCINNATI — Procter & Gamble has announced a string of organizational changes, including the appointment of Patrice Louvet as president of global male grooming.

Louvet, president of global prestige, will serve as president of global male grooming, succeeding Charles "Chip" Bergh, who is retiring from P&G after 28 years of service to pursue his aspiration to be CEO of a major company, the company stated.

CLEVELAND — The CFO of Efficient Collaborative Retail Marketing is stepping into a new role.

ECRM said that Mitchell Bowlus, who co-founded the company with CEO Charlie Bowlus in 1993, is assuming the role of president. Charlie Bowlus will be transitioning to a greater focus on software development, as well as humanitarian initiatives, ECRM said.

“Mitch has been instrumental in developing our business model and strategies, as well as our strong financial foundation, and is uniquely positioned to take us to the next level as president,” Bowlus said.

PHILADELPHIA and BLOOMFIELD, Conn. — Global health services company Cigna has hired former Alberto Culver executive Ralph Nicoletti to serve as EVP and CFO, effective June 20.

Nicoletti assumes executive leadership responsibility for all of Cigna's financial operations and functions, as well as for Cigna's investment management and strategic planning units. He will be based in Bloomfield, Conn.

“Prescription drug use is on the rise, especially over the last 10 to 15 years, and pharmacies are an easy target,” Hodges told CNN reporter Kiran Chetry.

CINCINNATI — An Eli Lilly executive was elected to Chiquita's board of directors at the company's annual shareholders meeting.

Chiquita said that Jeffrey Simmons, who serves as Lilly SVP and president of the drug maker's animal health division, Elanco Animal Health, brings more than 20 years of management experience to his new role on the audit committee and the food innovation, safety and technology committee.

DENVER, Colo. — Molson Coors' Andrew Molson and Pete Coors have switched roles.

The brewing company said that Molson, the company's current vice chairman, has assumed the role of chairman, while Coors, its current chairman, has stepped in as vice chairman. The planned transition is consistent with the company's by-laws, which allow the chairman and vice chairman to alternate between the Molson and Coors families every two years.
