NEW YORK — Prestige Brands has expanded its sales management team and customer planning group.

The appointments include:

  • David Howenstine, who joins Prestige as VP sales from Pfizer. At Pfizer, he served in a variety of leadership roles in field sales, customer development and category management;

  • Jayne Reiss, who previously worked at Warner Lambert, Brach, Insight Pharmaceutical and Matrixx, where she managed the national accounts sales force, has joined Prestige as VP national accounts;

WASHINGTON — The Retail Industry Leaders Association announced that the leaders of Sears Holdings and 7-Eleven have been named to its board of directors.

RILA announced the appointments of Louis D'Ambrosio, Sears Holdings president and CEO, and Joseph DePinto, 7-Eleven president and CEO, to its board at RILA's semi-annual meeting held this week in Washington, D.C.

The United Kingdom's pharmacy-led health and beauty retailer Boots — whose branded products are available in the United States at Target, Target.com, ShopBootsUSA.com, Ulta stores and at Shoppers Drug Mart in Canada — has named Sandra Gabriele, VP marketing and communications for Boots Retail USA, as its International Employee of the Year, part of the retailer's annual "Best of the Best Awards."

Impax Labs has expanded its senior management team with two appointments.

HAYWARD, Calif. — Impax Labs has expanded its senior management team with two appointments.

The generic drug maker said that Mark Fitch has joined the company as SVP operations, while Jeff Nornhold will become SVP quality affairs. Fitch, who joins Impax from Nycomed US, brings more than 35 years of pharmaceutical experience to his role. Nornhold, who most recently served as VP quality operations at drug maker Watson, is a 20-year pharmaceutical industry veteran.

Both Fitch and Nornhold will report to Impax president and CEO Larry Hsu.

Omnicare has added two members to its board of directors.

COVINGTON, Ky. — Omnicare has added two members to its board of directors.

The company said that Mark Emmert and Barry Schochet will serve as independent directors. Emmert serves as president of the National Collegiate Athletic Association, while Schochet serves as president and CEO of BPS Health Ventures, a healthcare consulting and investment firm.

General Nutrition Centers announced that its president and chief merchandising officer has resigned.

PITTSBURGH — General Nutrition Centers announced that its president and chief merchandising officer has resigned.

Beth Kaplan, who served in the role for 3.5 years, is leaving the company to pursue personal interests. As a member of the senior management team, Kaplan helped the company prepare for its recent initial public offering.

The role of president will be reassumed by GNC CEO Joe Fortunato.

AZUSA, Calif. — Physicians Formula has filled a vacancy in its board of directors.

Following the departure of Padraic Spence, Bruce Kanter, who has been active on several boards and served as SVP and CFO of Neutrogena from 1980 to 1991, will join Physicians Formula's board, as well as its audit committee, on July 1. Kanter's election was recommended by the company's nominating and corporate governance committee.

Kroger announced that it has named Michael Donnelly as SVP merchandising. Donnelly has been president of the company's Ralphs division, based in Los Angeles, since August 2007.

CINCINNATI — Kroger announced that it has named Michael Donnelly as SVP merchandising. Donnelly has been president of the company's Ralphs division, based in Los Angeles, since August 2007.

In his new position, Donnelly will lead all merchandising and procurement for Kroger.

Just one month after filling in as the interim leader of chocolate giant Hershey, John Bilbrey officially took the reigns as president and CEO of the company.

HERSHEY, Pa. — Just one month after filling in as the interim leader of chocolate giant Hershey, John Bilbrey officially took the reigns as president and CEO of the company.

Bilbrey also was elected to Hershey's board of directors, Hershey said Wednesday. Bilbrey, who served as the company's EVP and COO until May, replaced David West, who left his post after 10 years to become the chief executive at Del Monte Foods.

An industry veteran, LaPorte has more than 25 years of experience in sales, sales management, sales training and marketing in the healthcare industry.

Ladwig, who has worked for Lewis Drug for 33 years, was selected by his peers in honor of the dedication and service he has shown toward the profession of pharmacy. The award was presented to Ladwig at the association's recent 125th Annual Convention at the Sioux Falls Convention Center in Sioux Falls, S.D.

Activist investor Bill Ackman, and his Pershing Square Capital Management investment fund, has become the largest owner of Family Dollar stock, according to a regulatory filing.

MATTHEWS, N.C. — Activist investor Bill Ackman, and his Pershing Square Capital Management investment fund, has become the largest owner of Family Dollar stock, according to a regulatory filing.

The filing noted that Ackman has bought a stake of 8.9%.

The news follows just a few months after the retailer turned down an active takeover bid by Nelson Peltz's Trian Fund.

Whole Foods has expanded its board of directors.

AUSTIN, Texas — Whole Foods has expanded its board of directors.

The natural foods supermarket retailer said that it has elected Nordstrom president Blake Nordstrom to its board, where he will serve on the audit committee.

Nordstrom will serve until the company's annual meeting in March 2012, at which time he will be included on the shareholder ballot, Whole Foods said. With Nordstrom's appointment, Whole Foods' board now has 12 members.

Louvet, president of global prestige, will serve as president of global male grooming, succeeding Charles "Chip" Bergh, who is retiring from P&G after 28 years of service to pursue his aspiration to be CEO of a major company, the company stated.
