WASHINGTON — Partnership for Prevention on Tuesday named Jason Spangler the organization’s chief medical officer.

Spangler will work closely with Partnership’s Health Professionals Roundtable on Preventive Services, a group representing 1.5 million members from the leading primary care professional organizations. HPR collaborates on issues of common interest and concern in the delivery of clinical preventive services and also develops policy statements that advance preventive care recommendations.

A University of Maryland pharmacy professor won top honors last week for his work developing a means of measuring oxygen levels in the brain, the university said Monday.

BALTIMORE — A University of Maryland pharmacy professor won top honors last week for his work developing a means of measuring oxygen levels in the brain, the university said Monday.

The state chapter of the American Chemical Society named Gerald Rosen its Maryland Chemist of the Year. Rosen and colleagues are developing real-time electron paramagnetic resonance imaging, or EPRI, to measure critical oxygen levels in stroke and tumor patients and to improve drug development.

NEW YORK — Stephen Patrick late Friday announced his retirement as CFO of Colgate-Palmolive, effective Jan. 1.

Patrick, who has been working with the company since 1982 and has been CFO for 14 years, will be succeeded by 33-year Colgate veteran Dennis Hickey, VP and corporate controller. Patrick will assume the role of vice chairman until March 2011.

CINCINNATI — Just two weeks after announcing the exit of its SVP retail operations, Kroger announced a replacement on Friday.

Geoffrey Covert, a seasoned Kroger executive, will become SVP retail operations, effective Jan. 1. He will be responsible for leading the company's programs and processes focused on operating efficiency, store productivity and associate and customer safety, Kroger said. Prior to this position, Covert served as president of the company's Cincinnati/Dayton division for the past six years.

ST. LOUIS — Supermarket chain Schnuck Markets has appointed a new VP marketing, the company said Thursday.

Robert Howard previously worked for such companies as Kellogg, Kraft, Chiquita Brands, Luxottica Retail, Tyson Foods and Perfetti Van Melle.

At Schnuck’s, Howard will be in charge of advertising, marketing services, consumer research, food education and private brand development. He will report to president and COO Todd Schnuck.

BRIDGEWATER, N.J. — Amneal Pharmaceuticals has named a drug industry attorney as SVP and general counsel, the generic drug maker said Thursday.

Amneal announced the appointment of Robert Loewenstein, who previously served as head of law firm Budd Larner, P.C.’s corporate generic pharmaceuticals practice.

STAMFORD, Conn. — A maker of private-brand products has appointed a new CEO.

Daymon Worldwide said consumer packaged goods veteran Carla Cooper, who has served on the company's board since 2009, will replace co-founder Milton Sender, who will retain his position as chairman of the board.

Prior to joining Daymon Worldwide, Cooper served in senior management positions at such companies as Coca-Cola, PepsiCo, Procter & Gamble and Kellogg.

WASHINGTON — Procter & Gamble has inked a multiyear partnership with National Hockey League star Alex Ovechkin to serve as a Gillette brand ambassador.

Ovechkin will appear in advertising and marketing in support of the men's grooming brand in Russia and Eastern Europe, and will collaborate with Gillette to create charity programs that will contribute to youth hockey development in the region, as well as the Washington, D.C., area.

RONKONKOMA, N.Y. — NBTY on Monday named Jeffrey Nagel to the CEO post, succeeding Scott Rudolph, who will maintain his position as chairman.

Nagel comes to NBTY from General Electric, where he held senior leadership positions in several GE businesses addressing a variety of end markets, including oil and gas, consumer electronics, technology and aviation. He most recently served as head of GE Oil and Gas Global Services and was based in Florence, Italy.

Two-and-a-half years after joining the company, Robin Michel is leaving as president of the Giant-Landover division of Ahold USA to pursue other opportunities, the company confirmed Monday.

LANDOVER, Md. — Two-and-a-half years after joining the company, Robin Michel is leaving as president of the Giant-Landover division of Ahold USA to pursue other opportunities, the company confirmed Monday.

Michel will depart at the end of the month, according to Ahold USA spokesperson Sara Neumann. She will be replaced on a temporary basis as operations chief by Don Sussman, EVP supply chain at Ahold, while the company conducts a search for a successor.

Pfizer president and CEO Jeffrey Kindler has retired from the company, the drug maker said Sunday. Ian Read, who currently heads Pfizer’s global biopharmaceutical operations and has worked for the company since 1978, will succeed him.

NEW YORK — Pfizer president and CEO Jeffrey Kindler has retired from the company, the drug maker said Sunday. Ian Read, who currently heads Pfizer’s global biopharmaceutical operations and has worked for the company since 1978, will succeed him.

Kindler cited personal reasons for retiring, saying his around-the-clock work schedule had been “extremely demanding” on him personally, and that he would take time to spend with his family before making his next moves.

Carter-Smith will be the third chair of this committee, succeeding David Howenstine, VP customer and industry development at Pfizer Consumer Healthcare, whose term ends at the end of the year.

Kellogg's president, CEO and company director David Mackay announced that he will retire from his post, effective Jan. 1.

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. — Kellogg's president, CEO and company director David Mackay announced that he will retire from his post, effective Jan. 1.

The announcement is part of Kellogg's succession plan, which named current COO and board member John Bryant — who joined Kellogg in 1998 — as the company's new president and CEO. Mackay will work closely with Bryant to ensure a smooth transition through March 31, 2011, the company said.
