DARMSTADT, Germany and PARIS — President and CEO of Merck Serono, Belén Garijo, has been appointed an independent director of L'Oréal.

Garijo was appointed to the four-year term during L’Oréal’s 2014 Annual General Meeting held Thursday in Paris.

CINCINNATI — Kroger on Wednesday announced that Timothy Massa will be promoted to group VP human resources and labor relations.

Massa, 47, currently serves as VP corporate human resources, talent development. In this expanded role, he will take responsibility for labor relations when Paul Heldman, EVP, secretary and general counsel, retires in May.

Robert M. Long, former president, CEO and chairman of Longs Drug Stores passed away March 27 due to complications, which occurred as a result of inclusion body myositis.

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. — Robert M. Long, former president, CEO and chairman of Longs Drug Stores passed away March 27 due to complications, which occurred as a result of inclusion body myositis.  

Long was a well-known industry veteran having led Longs Drug Stores for more than 20 years. His retirement from the Walnut Creek, Calif.-based pharmacy retailer as CEO in 2000 marked the first time that a member of the founding family was not heading the company.
