CAMP HILL, Pa. — Rite Aid has appointed Susan Henderson as SVP and chief communications officer to replace Karen Rugen, who retired last month, the retail pharmacy chain said Monday.

Henderson will be responsible for all aspects of corporate communications, including media relations, financial communications, issues management, associate and supplier communications and the company's charity initiatives, reporting to president and CEO John Standley.

Rite Aid’s same-store sales increased by 1.9% in July, the retail pharmacy chain said Thursday.

CAMP HILL, Pa. — Rite Aid’s same-store sales increased by 1.9% in July, the retail pharmacy chain said Thursday.

During the four-week period ended July 23, comp sales jumped 3.1% on the front end and 1.4% in the pharmacy, including a 151 basis point reduction resulting from introduction of new generic drugs. Prescription counts decreased by 0.4%. Total sales during the four-week period were about $1.92 billion, a 1.6% increase over July 2010.

The expansion includes 14 stores that will open in 2012 and is said to create more than 600 jobs.

When Rite Aid chairman Mary Sammons accepted the Sheldon W. Fantle Lifetime Achievement Award at the National Association of Chain Drug Stores’ Annual Meeting in Scottsdale, Ariz., in May, it was the culmination of a career that had seen Rite Aid emerge from a period of darkness that had lasted more than a decade.

New Herr's hot-sauce-flavored ripple kettle cooked potato chips combine the taste of Herr's ripple kettle cooked potato chips with the zing of Texas Pete hot sauce, the companies said. This is the second potato chip creation developed in the companies' partnership.

The new Herr’s hot-sauce-flavored potato chips now are available in stores and vending machines across the United States.

The Pittsburgh Business Times reported that Mylan was planning to move from its current 96,000-sq.-ft. headquarters in Southpointe, a development in the Pittsburgh suburb of Cecil Township, to a 250,000-sq.-ft. building nearby.

The new headquarters is under construction, the newspaper reported.

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — Generic drug maker Teva recently admitted that one of its drugs infringes two of Amgen's patents.

The U.S. District Court in Pennsylvania has barred Teva from selling its human G-CSF (human granulocyte colony-stimulating factor) product Neutroval in the United States until Nov. 10, 2013. What's more, the court's injunction extends to Teva's other human G-CSF product, Neugranin. Teva will not sell Neugranin until Nov. 10, 2013, unless it first obtains a final court decision that Amgen's patents are not infringed by Neugranin.

For the 13-week period ended June 25, the company's net income increased 0.9% to $20.7 million, compared with $20.5 million in 2010, while earnings per share increased to 77 cents, compared with 76 cents in 2010.

FRAZER, Pa. — Teva Pharmaceutical Industries got the go-ahead from Cephalon’s shareholders to acquire the Frazer, Pa.-based company in a deal worth $6.8 billion.

Teva came out as the front-runner to purchase Cephalon in May, when the drug maker spurned a takeover bid by Mississauga, Ontario-based Valeant Pharmaceuticals, which had offered $5.7 billion in March.
