Fresh off its third consecutive profitable quarter, Rite Aid has appointed Ken Martindale as president and COO, the retail pharmacy chain said Monday.

CAMP HILL, Pa. — Fresh off its third consecutive profitable quarter, Rite Aid has appointed Ken Martindale as president and COO, the retail pharmacy chain said Monday.

Martindale, who is currently SVP and COO, as well as president of the Rite Aid Foundation, will assume the new position effective immediately. John Standley will continue as chairman and CEO.

MONTVALE, NJ – Grocer A&P, which emerged from bankruptcy in March 2012, announced on Tuesday that it is under contract for the sale of its real estate interests in a few non-core store locations. 

The pending deals are a combination of leasehold sales and sale-leaseback transactions that are expected to generate proceeds for the company in excess of $130 million, the retailer stated.

CAMP HILL, Pa. — Rite Aid's same-store sales increased by 1.9% in November, compared with the year-ago period, the company said Thursday.

The country's third-largest retail pharmacy chain said front-end same-store sales decreased by 0.6%, while pharmacy same-store sales increased by 3.1%. Meanwhile, total drug store sales were $2.4 billion, a 1.4% increase over November 2010's $2.37 billion.

First, there was the wellness+ loyalty card program. Then, there was the wellness store format, with its team of Wellness Ambassadors. “This new format is all about empowering our customers in their pursuit of wellness,” president and CEO John Standley said in the company’s first quarter 2012 earnings call on June 23.

Kelly, who has worked in real estate and development for more than 25 years, will start work May 31 and will have overall responsibility for all store planning and construction services, in addition to having a role in various segmentation initiatives, including Wellness, value and co-branded Save-A-Lot/Rite Aid stores.
