FLINT, Mich. — A rapidly growing specialty pharmacy has been named a "bright spot" in Michigan's economy by a statewide business magazine.

Diplomat Specialty Pharmacy said Corp! magazine had named it among 40 other businesses based in the state at the Corp! 2013 Michigan Economic Bright Spot awards ceremony.

MISSISSAUGA, Ontario — An athletic team consisting entirely of people with diabetes will take part in several professional competitions and speaking events in Canada.

Team Novo Nordisk, organized by the Danish drug maker, includes 17 professional bike riders from 10 countries, including winners and podium finishers from professional races. The team will take part in the Tour de Beauce in Quebec, with three cyclists, and will compete in BC Superweek in British Columbia, as well as other competitions around the country.

WASHINGTON — A lobbying group representing retailers is hoping Congress will delay the full implementation of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act next year.

In testimony before the House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations, NRF VP and employee benefits policy counsel Neil Trautwein said retailers have "serious concerns" about the healthcare reform law, set to take effect next year. The group said it has "consistently" opposed the law.

NEW YORK — Onco360 is joining the limited-distribution network for two newly approved cancer drugs made by GlaxoSmithKline, the specialty pharmacy company said.

The New York-based company said it had been selected as a distributor of Tafinlar (dabrafenib) and Mekinist (trametinib). The drugs were approved as standalone therapies, not a combined therapy.

The Associated Press reported that the Minneapolis-based mass merchandise chain would not replenish its inventory of Paula Deen-branded cookware in its stores or online once the merchandise sold out. Walmart has made a similar announcement.

SILVER SPRING, Md. — The Food and Drug Administration is working with international regulators in the latest crackdown on rogue Internet pharmacies, the agency said Thursday.

The FDA announced the the latest effort, dubbed Operation Pangea VI, in which law enforcement, customs and regulatory agencies in 99 countries took action against more than 9,600 websites illegally selling potentially dangerous, unapproved drugs to consumers. The actions included regulatory warnings and seizure of websites and $41.1 million worth of illegal medicines.

Amber Pharmacy has opened its expanded headquarters, saying the new structure, which links to the existing headquarters, will provide room for the company's growth.

Amber said Wednesday that the new addition to the headquarters also would provide space for Hy-Vee Pharmacy Solutions, the specialty pharmacy joint venture that it runs with West Des Moines, Iowa-based supermarket chain Hy-Vee.

CINCINNATI — Kroger is hoping to achieve a government-supported "zero waste" threshold, and will be about three-quarters of the way there within two years, the supermarket operator said Wednesday.

The company said it was moving toward the Environmental Protection Agency's zero-waste threshold of having 90% of its waste diverted away from landfills at all locations, diverting 58% of its waste already and hoping to increase that to 65% by the end of the year and 70% by the end of 2015.

PITTSBURGH — Mylan has launched a generic version of a Johnson & Johnson contraceptive, the company said Wednesday.

Mylan announced the launch of norethindrone tablets in the 0.35 mg strength. The drug is a generic version of Micronor, made by J&J subsidiary Janssen Pharmaceuticals. A company partnering with Mylan on the drug, Famy Care, received approval from the Food and Drug Administration for the drug.

Various versions of the drug had sales of about $57.2 million during the 12-month period that ended in March, according to IMS Health.

CENTRALIA, Ill. — A redone Schnucks store will feature an expanded selection of gluten-free foods, the St. Louis-based supermarket chain said.

Schnuck Markets said it was in the process of remodeling its store in Centralia, Ill., which would make room for expanded services. Among these are a larger number of gluten-free foods in grocery and frozen-food areas. The section featuring the products will go from four feet to 16 feet.

LANGHORNE, Pa. — Drug supply company ScripsAmerica has entered a marketing and distribution deal for a line of OTC pain relievers and fever reducers.

ScripsAmerica said Wednesday that it had made an agreement with DPG Distribution, which provides global sales, marketing and distribution for high-end retail consumer products, for the RapiMed line. DPG's clients include Walgreens, Target, ShopRite, Walmart and Costco. ScripsAmerica plans to launch RapiMed in September. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

GREEN BAY, Wis. – The philanthropic arm of mass merchandise chain Shopko is donating money to fund scholarships for the 2013-2014 academic year.

The Shopko Foundation announced the donation of $75,000 in $2,500 scholarships to 30 students in 10 states. The philanthropy has donated $375,000 since 2005 through its Teammate and Family Scholarship Program.

ATLANTA — Health kiosks made by SoloHealth and placed in Sam's Club stores will have a new feature installed to allow users to assess their needs for vitamins and supplements.

The company said its SoloHealth Station kiosks at stores operated by the club retailer would include a Vitamin Assessment module. The module will only be installed on Sam's Club's kiosks, the company said. The kiosks also include screenings for vision, blood pressure, weight and body mass index.

WOONSOCKET, R.I. — MinuteClinic has made a deal with a Tennessee healthcare system to expand clinics in three counties in the state, the CVS Caremark clinics division said Wednesday.

MinuteClinic has a partnership with Parkridge Health System, itself a division of HCA/TriStar, to have Parkridge physicians serve as medical directors for seven walk-in clinics. The clinics operate inside CVS stores in Chattanooga, Hixson and Signal Mountain, Tenn., as well as a new location in Cleveland, Tenn., which opened last week.

NEW YORK — Teva Pharmaceutical Industries and Mylan have launched generic versions of Pfizer's Viagra in nearly a dozen European countries, the two companies said.

Teva, based in Jerusalem, announced the launch of generic sildenafil tablets in Germany, the United Kingdom, Italy, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Ireland, Austria, Belgium and Denmark. The company already markets generic versions of the erectile dysfunction drug in Spain and Canada.

HAYWARD, Calif. — The head of generic drug maker Impax Labs will retire, the company said Tuesday.

Impax said president and CEO Larry Hsu would retire, but would remain with the company until a replacement CEO is found and he would remain as a board member following the appointment of his successor. Hsu cofounded the company in 1994.

A three-person search committee to find a new CEO will include Hsu, Allen Chao and board chairman Bob Burr.
