Allscripts said it would demonstrate the Population Health Analytics system at the Allscripts Client Experience, which takes place between Wednesday and Friday in Chicago.

LAKE SUCCESS, N.Y. — Specialty pharmacy CareMed Pharmaceutical Services has been added to a limited-distribution network for a cancer drug sold by Genentech and Astellas Pharma, the company said.

CareMed said it had been selected to supply the drug, Tarceva (erlotinib). The two drug makers stopped distributing the drug, a once-daily treatment for advanced lung cancer, through retail pharmacies at the beginning of July.

The Food and Drug Administration has approved a new epilepsy drug made by Supernus Pharmaceuticals, the company said.

ROCKVILLE, Md. — The Food and Drug Administration has approved a new epilepsy drug made by Supernus Pharmaceuticals, the company said Monday.

Supernus announced the approval of Trokendi XR, a once-daily, extended-release formulation of the drug topiramate. As part of the approval, the FDA granted Supernus a waiver for some of the requirements for studies of the drug in children and a deferral for submission of other post-marketing data due in 2019, followed by clinical assessments in 2025.

NEW YORK — The Food and Drug Administration is looking to regulate flavored cigars, according to published reports.

According to the New York Times, the FDA intends to regulate cigars and other tobacco products, much as it regulates cigarettes, but it hasn't given a timetable. Under the Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act of 2009, the agency banned almost every flavor of cigarette except menthol — including candy, fruit and clove flavors — but flavored cigars and pipe tobacco are still permitted.

BOSTON — The maker of a mobile app designed to help consumers track and remember products for later has secured $5 million in new capital.

ShopAdvisor said it closed the financing round with Pittco Capital Partners, Seavest Capital, Rationalware Capital Partners and Boston investors Rob Soni and Bob Davoli. The new round brings the company's total funding to $7 million.

MINNEAPOLIS — Target is opening a new store in King of Prussia, Pa., the mass-merchandise chain said Monday.

The 165,000-sq. ft. store will include fresh produce, fresh meat and packaged backed goods, as well as a pharmacy, optical center and in-store Starbucks, employing 200 to 250 people. The store will donate to local chapters of the United Way, Feeding America and grant programs.

 PARSIPPANY, N.J. — Actavis and Warner Chilcott have received approval from all necessary antitrust clearances for their merger from regulators outside the United States, the companies said Friday.

The drug makers said that the French Competition Authority had approved U.S.-based Actavis' acquisition of Ireland-based Warner Chilcott. The German Federal Cartel Office had previously approved the deal as well.

PARSIPPANY, N.J. — Actavis has acquired global rights to a drug made by a Spanish company for fungal infections of the vagina, the companies said Tuesday.

Actavis and Palau Pharma announced that Actavis Specialty Brands had acquired right's to albaconazole, an orally administered antifungal for vulvo-vaginal candidiasis, onychomycosis and others. The drug, which Palau discovered, is currently in phase-2 clinical trials, and Actavis foresees a potential U.S. commercial launch of the drug in 2017.

BALTIMORE — The Food and Drug Administration has approved a generic heart disease drug made by Lupin, the Indian drug maker said.

Lupin said the FDA approved its ranolazine extended-release tablets in the 500-mg and 1,000-mg strengths. The drug is used to treat chronic angina.

Ranolazine extended-release tablets are a generic version of Gilead Sciences' Ranexa, which had sales of about $443.4 million during the 12-month period that ended in March, according to IMS Health.

LAKE FOREST, Ill. — Hospira posted sales of $1 billion during second quarter 2013, a 0.7% decrease compared with second quarter 2012, the generic drug maker said.

Hospira, which specializes in making generic injectables, also posted $318.7 million gross profit, a 12.4% increase over second quarter 2012's $283.5 million.

PITTSBURGH — Mylan's sales ticked up slightly in second quarter 2013, compared with the same period last year, the company said.

The Pittsburgh-based generic drug maker reported sales of $1.7 billion, a 1% increase over second quarter 2012's $1.69 billion. For the six-month period that ended June 30, sales were $3.33 billion, a 2% increase over $3.27 billion during the same period last year.
