RALEIGH, N.C. — North Carolina may be two years away from joining Oregon and Mississippi as the only states to classify pseudoepehdrine as a prescription-only medicine.

PORTLAND, Ore. — Consumer Cellular, the exclusive wireless provider for AARP members, on Tuesday announced a distribution agreement for its line of contract-free cellular phones and plans at 826 Walgreens locations throughout Florida.

The line of phones includes a Motorola WX345, which features a digital camera, MP3 player and FM radio for $34.99 and the Doro PhoneEasy 410, which features an easy-to-read color display, large buttons, backlit keypad, vibrating ringer and Bluetooth technology for $59.99.

PLEASANTON, Calif. — Safeway on Monday named Portland, Ore., as the winner of its "America's Most Natural City" contest and will donate $20,000 and 25 picnic tables constructed from the Guinness World Record holder for the world's longest picnic table.

The contest was inspired by Safeway's commitment to 100% natural products with its new Open Nature line, the grocer stated.

When Rite Aid chairman Mary Sammons accepted the Sheldon W. ALEXANDRIA, Va. — The National Community Pharmacists Association on Friday announced “grave concerns” regarding a purported Oregon Medicaid plan amendment that would, according to the association, renege on a pact the state previously reached with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and cut Medicaid pharmacy reimbursement for the second time this year.

SALEM, Ore. — Diamond Foods has cut the fat from its Kettle potato chips brand.

The company said that Kettle now will carry reduced-fat versions of its sea salt, sea salt & vinegar and salt & fresh ground pepper potato chip varieties. Kettle's reduced-fat sea salt chips already have hit store shelves, touting a suggested retail price of $3.49.

The additional reduced-fat chips will make their way to retail next month. The sea salt & vinegar variety will be available in "Krinkle cut," a ridge-style chip, the company added.

ALBANY, Ore. — In response to a Food and Drug Administration warning letter, Tec Labs announced on Thursday that the company plans to work with the agency regarding its StaphAseptic first-aid antiseptic and pain-relieving gel.

The FDA on Wednesday issued a total of four warning letters, including the one to Tec Labs, to companies that manufacture and market products claiming to prevent infection from methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus bacteria, or MRSA.

The Obama administration on the official White House website identifies “5 Important Numbers on Health Reform.” These include:

• Zero. The amount consumers would have to pay for premiums, co-insurance or co-payments on any preventive services;

• Fifty. The number of states that now offer insurance options to all people, regardless of any pre-existing conditions;

BEAVERTON, Ore. — Continua Health Alliance has appointed a new president and chairman to its board of directors.

The nonprofit said that Clint McClellan, senior director of market development at Qualcomm, will take on his new role this week. McClellan has represented Qualcomm on the board since 2009.

LAS VEGAS — Nevada Sen. Sheila Leslie, D-Reno, is working with Carson City district attorney Neil Rombardo on introducing a bill to require a prescription for pseudoephedrine as a tool to cut down on illicit methamphetamine production, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported Wednesday evening.
