Walgreens on Tuesday introduced its new Web Pickup service at locations throughout the Indianapolis area.

DEERFIELD, Ill. — Walgreens on Tuesday introduced its new Web Pickup service at locations throughout the Indianapolis area. Indianapolis is the second full market rollout for Web Pickup, which enables consumers to shop online at Walgreens.com and pick up orders at a Walgreens store in as little as an hour. The service also is currently available throughout Chicago and at a number of stores in San Jose, Calif.

Online retail spending reached $36.3 billion for third quarter 2011, up 13% from last year, according to comScore.

RESTON, Va. — Online retail spending reached $36.3 billion for third quarter 2011, up 13% from last year, according to comScore. This growth rate represented the eighth consecutive quarter of positive year-over-year growth and fourth consecutive quarter of double-digit growth rates.

The top-performing online product categories were: digital content and subscriptions, event tickets, jewelry and watches, consumer electronics (excluding computer peripherals) and computer software. Each category grew at least 15% versus a year ago, comScore reported.

NEW YORK — Online retailer Amazon is testing robotic delivery lockers that people can use to receive items they order from the website, according to published reports.

Wired magazine reported online that the company was conducting the tests in Seattle and New York at Rite Aid and 7-Eleven stores, as well as other locations. The new service would allow people to select a locker location for delivery and then go to retrieve their items automatically using a six-digit code.

LOS ANGELES — The state of the economy continues to impact consumers' holiday shopping decisions as many plan to spend less or the same this year.

According to a new survey of 3,070 U.S. online shopping consumers, conducted by PriceGrabber, 45% said that they plan to spend less this year, while 49% plan to spend the same, compared with 2010. Additionally, more than two-thirds of those surveyed (68%) said the economic climate will affect their overall spending, with many of them attributing their decision to an increase in prices for food, gas and other necessities.

LOS ANGELES — Back-to-school budgets will moderately decrease this year, but more consumers will turn to the Internet to score the best deals.

According to a survey conducted by PriceGrabber, 48% of shoppers said they plan to spend $250 or more on back-to-school purchases, while 25% will spend $500 or more. This compared with 2010, when 56% of consumers indicated that they would spend $250 or more, while 31% planned to spend $500 or more.

NEW YORK — Royal Ahold’s Peapod online grocery service is expanding in New York, according to published reports.

According to the reports, the new service, Peapod by Stop & Shop, will fill orders using the existing warehouse presence of Ahold supermarket banner Stop & Shop, which operates several stores in the city. In addition to groceries, Peapod also offers numerous health and beauty products.
