Lundbeck adds Omnicare to limited distribution network for Huntington's drug

The specialty pharmacy operated by Omnicare Specialty Care Group has been added to the limited distribution network for a drug used to treat a hereditary degenerative disorder.

ORLANDO, Fla. — The specialty pharmacy operated by Omnicare Specialty Care Group has been added to the limited distribution network for a drug used to treat a hereditary degenerative disorder.

Omnicare said Friday that Lundbeck had added Advanced Care Scripts to its network for Xenaziner (tetrabenazine). The drug is used to treat involuntary movements known as chorea associated with Huntington's disease. Chroea affects about 90% of people with Huntington's and is considered a hallmark of the disease, according to studies.

Five Star Quality Care sells pharmacy business to Omnicare

Five Star Quality Care is selling its pharmacy business for $30.7 million, the company said Tuesday.

NEWTON, Mass. — Five Star Quality Care is selling its pharmacy business for $30.7 million, the company said Tuesday.

Five Star said it would sell business, which consists of eight pharmacies serving institutional pharmacy services to 247 senior living communities in 13 states, to Omnicare.

In addition to the $30.7 million sale, the deal includes the sale to Omnicare or retention of certain items of net working capital worth about $9.4 million.

Omnicare takes PharMerica acquisition bid to stockholders

Pharmaceutical services provider Omnicare is taking its bid to buy PharMerica hostile.

COVINGTON, Ky. — Pharmaceutical services provider Omnicare is taking its bid to buy PharMerica hostile.

PharMerica, a Louisville, Ky.-based company that distributes drugs to long-term care centers, turned down Omnicare's offer last month, saying it undervalued the company. Omnicare, a Covington, Ky.-based company that also distributes drugs to long-term care centers and nursing homes, had offered $716 million, or $15 per share, which it said represented a 37.2% premium over PharMerica's closing stock price on Aug. 22.

CEO John Figueroa presided over the ringing of the bell to mark the occasion, the company said, as did other members of the company's senior leadership team and 30-year employee Tom Marsh.

COVINGTON, Ky. — The VP distribution operations for Omnicare's RxCrossroads business has stepped into a new role, Omnicare announced Tuesday.

Dan Thomas was appointed to the role of SVP and general manager for RxCrossroads, an Omnicare division that provides specialized solutions specifically tailored to the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries. Thomas, who has worked in the unit for 27 years, will have full operational responsibility in his new role and report to Nitin Sahney, EVP and president of Omnicare’s Specialty Care Group.

The company said that Mark Emmert and Barry Schochet will serve as independent directors. Emmert serves as president of the National Collegiate Athletic Association, while Schochet serves as president and CEO of BPS Health Ventures, a healthcare consulting and investment firm.

Froesel to step in as BioScrip CFO

Specialty pharmacy provider BioScrip has appointed David Froesel as EVP, CFO and treasurer, the company said Wednesday. Froesel will begin immediately, replacing Stan Rosembaum, who plans to leave the company before the year ends.

Froesel previously worked at Omnicare, which provides pharmaceutical care services to the elderly, for close to 14 years, serving as SVP and CFO from March 1996 until December 2009. Before working for Omnicare, Froesel worked at Mallinckrodt Group for 18 years.
