NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. — Johnson & Johnson Consumer earlier this summer put the freeze on pain with the launch of its Bengay Zero Degrees line extension, an external analgesic rub that makes its home alongside the frozen peas in the freezer. According to the company, it’s the first and only topical pain reliever that can be stored in the freezer. Sales of the Bengay brand were up 6.4% to $8.9 million for the 12 weeks ended July 8 across food, drug and mass (excluding Walmart), according to SymphonyIRI Group data.

CINCINNATI — Procter & Gamble on Monday officially announced the introduction of ZzzQuil, a sleep aid addition to its Vicks NyQuil and Vicks DayQuil brands.

“ZzzQuil not only helps reduce the time it takes for a person to fall asleep, but [also] allows them to sleep soundly so they can wake up rested and refreshed,” stated Dave Tomasi, marketing director of North America for Vicks. “It is a sleep-only solution that delivers effective relief to consumers suffering from occasional sleeplessness.”

CINCINNATI — This cough-cold season, Procter & Gamble showcased four new Vicks Nature Fusion products — traditional cough-cold-relieving medicines infused with honey. Young recently updated its packaging graphics across its Absorbine Jr. external analgesic line that not only will serve to contemporize the brand, but also will play off the company’s heritage of developing pain-relief products for horses and the potency of the product (i.e., “strong enough for a horse”).

NEW YORK Kaz on Tuesday announced the launch of its Vicks Starry Night humidifier, a product that releases cool moisture into the air for temporary relief of congestion and coughs, and features a built-in, independently controlled projector so that parents have the option to turn off the lights once their child has fallen asleep without turning off the humidifier altogether.

With the Vicks Starry Night humidifier, parents will be able to create a virtual galaxy on their child's bedroom ceiling.
