Approximately 70% of people who abuse prescription medications get them from family or friends, often from medicine cabinets. On average, more than 10,000 people in the U.S. abuse prescription medications for the first time each day.

The awards honor top brands travelers across select global markets prefer to use on their trips. In the U.S., there were 21 winners in categories ranging from cameras to sunscreen and carry-on luggage. Winners also were announced in the United Kingdom, France, Germany, India, Italy, Spain and Russia.

Cardinal Health reported fiscal year 2013 third-quarter revenue of $24.6 billion, a 8.9% decline as compared to the quarter a year ago.

DUBLIN, Ohio — Cardinal Health on Thursday reported fiscal year 2013 third-quarter revenue of $24.6 billion, a 8.9% decline as compared with the quarter a year ago. 

However, Cardinal Health reported net earnings per share of $1.01, up 5.2%. According to published reports, Wall Street had been expecting greater revenue of $24.7 billion but at a lesser gain with earnings expectations estimated around 96 cents per share.

Cardinal Health and McKesson separately announced the renewal of their pharmaceutical distribution agreements with CVS Caremark.

DUBLIN, Ohio — Cardinal Health and McKesson separately announced the renewal of their pharmaceutical distribution agreements with CVS Caremark.

Under Cardinal Health’s renewed agreement, the wholesaler stated that it will supply pharmaceuticals to a network of CVS Caremark's retail pharmacies and distribution centers through mid-2016. The stores and distribution centers serviced under the new arrangement are essentially the same as those serviced in the prior arrangement.

DUBLIN, Ohio — Cardinal Health's philanthropic division is offering grants to organizations for programs to prevent abuse and misuse of prescription drugs.

The Cardinal Health Foundation said it was inviting non-profits in 18 locations around the country, as well as Puerto Rico, to apply for grant funding. The announcement marks the fourth year of the foundation's Prescription Drug Abuse and Misuse Prevention Grant Program.

Fruth Pharmacy is opening its second store in the town of Ironton, Ohio, and 27th overall, the retail pharmacy chain said.

IRONTON, Ohio — Fruth Pharmacy is opening its second store in the town of Ironton, Ohio, the retail pharmacy chain said Friday.

The store, the 27th in the Point Pleasant, W.Va.-based chain, was formerly Staley's Pharmacy, an independent drug store. Owner Jim Staley, considering retirement, sold the store to Fruth. All the store's employees, including Staley and his sister, were offered positions, and most stayed, Fruth said. The chain also recently opened its 26th store in Ironton.
