The Healthy Kids Summit, which took place Monday at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Mass., attracted more than 300 residents, customers, families and children and featured guidance from community and health experts, such as New England Patriots safety Patrick Chung and leaders from the Massachusetts Department of Public Health and the YMCA.

CARLISLE, Pa. — A Giant-Carlisle store in Pennsylvania will sponsor an event to teach kids about healthy eating.

Giant Food Stores, the Ahold USA-owned chain based in Carlisle, Pa., said it would sponsor the "Kid Healthy Ideas Nutrition Express" on Friday morning and again on the morning of Aug. 22 at a store in Camp Hill, Pa.

An in-store nutritionist will teach kids how to make snack mix, breakfasts and healthy desserts, as well as teach them about the dangers of sugary drinks.

LONDONDERRY, N.H. — Stonyfield has bolstered its line of organic Oikos frozen Greek yogurt.

Stonyfield said its lineup has expanded to include peach mango and superfruits flavors, which tout zero fat and 100 calories per serving The two flavors join a lineup that includes chocolate, vanilla, honey and blueberry. The frozen Greek yogurt is available at stores nationwide.

But one supermarket-pharmacy chain is doing its part to address the problem, especially among the young. Since early last year, Giant-Carlisle has been sponsoring a series of childhood obesity forums around the markets it serves in Pennsylvania and Virginia to discuss the problem and how to combat it.

RIVERSIDE, Calif. — Active Health Foods has nominated nutritionist Shanais Pelka to its board of directors, the company said last week.

Pelka, the company said, was "instrumental" in developing the company's unique and proprietary formulas for its Active X energy bars. She holds a Masters of Science degree in nutrition, a Master of Arts degree in education, as well as being a certified nutritional consultant and a PhD candidate in nutrition.

Recently, Active Health Foods launched Active X energy bars at retail.

Field Trip Factory's third annual Dietitian Summit, which strives to generate awareness about the food industry's commitment to consumer health, will be held next month at a Giant Super Food store in Willow Grove, Pa. About 40 retail dietitians and nutritionists are expected to attend the three-day conference.
