HOUSTON — Walgreens and Novo Nordisk are working with Sharps Compliance to offer Sharps' Complete Needle Collection & Disposal System for customers who use injectable drugs.

BAGSVAERD, Denmark — Danish drug maker Novo Nordisk has launched a five-
volume series of e-books designed to help patients work with their healthcare providers to better manage their diabetes.


The series is part of the Cornerstones4Care patient-support program launched earlier this year, and the books will be available at such e-book sites as iBooks, Reader Store, the Nook Book Store and Free-eBooks.net toward the end of this year.


PRINCETON, N.J. — Novo Nordisk has appointed a new VP regulatory affairs.

Effective Sept. 12, Eddie Li will lead the drug maker's U.S. regulatory team and maintain relationships with individuals and agencies outside of Novo Nordisk that play a role in the Food and Drug Administration's review and approval process, the company said.

Li will report to Anne Philips, corporate VP clinical development, medical and regulatory affairs for North America.

NEW YORK — Generic drug maker Sandoz is suing Danish drug maker Novo Nordisk over a generic version of a drug used to treat diabetes, according to published reports.

Bloomberg reported that Sandoz, the generics arm of Swiss drug maker Novartis, was suing Novo Nordisk in a Detroit federal court, hoping the court would find that the Sandoz generic version of Novo Nordisk's Prandin (repaglinide) did not infringe on the latter company's patent covering the drug.

BURLINGTON, Mass. — Novo Nordisk could be outpacing Eli Lilly and Amylin Pharmaceuticals in the diabetes wars, according to an analysis by healthcare market research firm Decision Resources.

SAN DIEGO — Novo Nordisk unveiled data from two extension studies at the 71st annual Scientific Sessions of the American Diabetes Association in San Diego that show its diabetes drug, when combined with other medications, may help patients achieve blood-sugar control.

The drug maker found that combining Victoza (liraglutide [rDNA origin] injection) with metformin and/or sulfonylurea helped patients achieve blood-sugar control.

BOISE, Idaho — Albertson's LLC, which operates more than 200 stores across seven states under the Albertsons banner, announced it has joined the Diabetes Prevention and Control Alliance.

The retail grocery chain joins such companies as UnitedHealth Group, YMCA, Walgreens and Novo Nordisk as a DPCA partner. Albertson's LLC will participate in the DCPA's Diabetes Control Program, offering its customers community-based programs that help prevent and control diabetes.

COPENHAGEN — Novo Nordisk said new data showed that its basal insulin analog is just as effective as human basal insulin in Type 1 diabetes patients ages 2 to 5 years.

PRINCETON, N.J. — Novo Nordisk has filed for approval of a treatment for a rare genetic bleeding disorder, the Danish drug maker said Wednesday.

The company submitted to the Food and Drug Administration its application for recombinant factor XIII compound, for congenital factor XIII deficiency. Current treatments for FXIII deficiency use products derived from human blood plasma, which carries the risk of contamination.
