MATTHEWS, N.C. — Holly Shaskey-Platek has been appointed to serve as SVP merchandising for Family Dollar, the retailer announced.

Shaskey-Platek, who has worked at the company since 2008, will lead the home, apparel and seasonal divisions and report to Paul White, EVP and chief merchandising officer. Prior to her new role, she worked as a consultant to provide company-wide change management leadership. Before that, Shaskey-Platek spent a total of 25 years with Target and ShopNBC.

RALEIGH, N.C. — Specialty pharmacy provider MedPro Rx has received accreditation from an accrediting body for the fourth time, the company said.

MedPro Rx said the accreditation, from the American Commission for Health Care, also marked the first time the company had received it for specialty pharmacy services and infusion nursing services, calling ACHC accreditation a key benchmark for measuring an organization's quality.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Two North Carolina-based grocery stores have announced a purchase and sale agreement.

Harris Teeter will acquire 10 of the Lowes Foods' store locations in the central Carolinas region, while Lowes Foods will acquire six Harris Teeter store locations in western North Carolina. In addition to six of its stores being acquired by Lowes Foods, Harris Teeter said it also will pay the latter $26.5 million. The transaction is expected to be completed in the company's third quarter of fiscal 2012, which ends July 1.

SALISBURY, N.C. — A distribution center that services 270 Food Lion stores in North Carolina has reopened after being severely damage due to a tornado.

Food Lion said the Dunn, N.C.-based center, which first opened in 1988, now includes an expanded refrigerated and frozen section of an additional 54,000 sq. ft., which provides added storage for more than 4,000 dairy, meat and frozen food products. On average, the distribution facility ships more than 1.4 million cases of products each week and houses 12,800 items.

ASHEVILLE, N.C. — Net sales for Ingles Markets experienced a spike during the second quarter and first half of fiscal year 2012, the retailer reported Monday.

For the second quarter ended March 24, Ingles Markets said net sales rose $11.3 million to $881.7 million, compared with the year-ago period, while net income dropped from $7.7 million in second quarter 2011 to $6.5 million in second quarter 2012. Excluding gasoline sales, comparable-store sales at Ingles Markets during the quarter decreased 0.1%, compared with the second quarter of the prior fiscal year.
