Women who take low-dose oral contraceptives may be at increased risk of chronic pelvic-pain symptoms and pain during sexual climax, according to a new study.

SAN DIEGO — Women who take low-dose oral contraceptives may be at increased risk of chronic pelvic-pain symptoms and pain during sexual climax, according to a new study.

The study, scheduled for presentation to reporters at the American Urological Association's annual scientific meeting in San Diego on Tuesday, was conducted by researchers at New York University and the Waitemata District Health Board in Auckland, New Zealand, compared CPPS in young women who used oral contraceptives with the condition in those who didn't.

Valeant to buy iNova for up to A$700 million

Canadian drug maker Valeant Pharmaceuticals International is acquiring an Australian drug maker for up to A$700 million, Valeant said.

MISSISSAUGA, Ontario — Canadian drug maker Valeant Pharmaceuticals International is acquiring an Australian drug maker for up to A$700 million, Valeant said.

Valeant announced that it would acquire iNova, which sells and distributes prescription and OTC drugs in Australia, New Zealand, Southeast Asia and South Africa, from iNova's current shareholders, Archer Capital, Ironbridge and others.

Valeant will pay iNova shareholders A$625 upfront and up to A$75 million in milestones.

Wrigley is packing a new type of gum in its "down under" market.

NEW YORK — Wrigley is packing a new type of gum in its "down under" market.

The company launched in Australia and New Zealand new Extra Professional Calcium, a sugar-free line of gum that contains microgranules that are designed to whiten teeth and feature added calcium. The company said that chewing Extra gum products stimulated saliva, which contains more bicarbonate, calcium and phosphate to help remineralize tooth enamel.
