Canus, a provider of goat's milk skin care products, is introducing its Caprina by Canus line of soaps, body washes and foaming milk baths to the U.S. market.

WATERBURY, Vt. — Canus, a provider of goat's milk skin care products, is introducing its Caprina by Canus line of soaps, body washes and foaming milk baths to the U.S. market. 

Canus launched Caprina in Canada in early 2009 and, starting in June, Caprina will be available in U.S. retail stores. Both Publix Super Markets with 933 of its stores across the southern United States and Hannaford's 180 locations throughout New England, will begin offering a selection of Caprina products.

The study, published Thursday in the New England Journal of Medicine, was based on a database maintained by IMS Health that includes a sample of more than 70% of U.S. prescriptions.

The research organization said that number meant dementia costs more to treat than cancer or heart disease, with the greatest cost coming from institutional and home-based long-term care, as opposed to medical services.

NEW YORK — A new strain of the bacterium that causes whooping cough immune to vaccines may have appeared in the United States, according to a brief published Thursday in the New England Journal of Medicine.

The brief, filed by officials from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and other health authorities, reported that a strain of Bordetella pertussis had been reported in Japan, France and Finland and may have appeared in Philadelphia, where 12 children were hospitalized between 2011 and 2012.

Ahold USA said it appointed Jan van Dam as EVP supply chain and e-commerce, in which he will focus on supply chain for the company's four U.S. divisions, Stop & Shop in the New York area and New England, Giant-Landover and Giant-Carlisle.
