Johnson & Johnson expects to file for Food and Drug Administration approval of more than 10 new drugs over the next four years, the drug maker said Thursday.

NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. — Johnson & Johnson expects to file for Food and Drug Administration approval of more than 10 new drugs over the next four years, the drug maker said Thursday.

J&J's Janssen Pharmaceutical Cos. highlighted its more than 11 new product launches since 2009 and said it hoped to file with the FDA for more than two-dozen "significant" extensions to its branded drug lines by 2017.

Johnson & Johnson's sales increased by 8.5% to $17.5 billion in first quarter 2013, the healthcare products company said Tuesday.

NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. — Johnson & Johnson's sales increased by 8.5% to $17.5 billion in first quarter 2013, the healthcare products company said Tuesday.

The increase included a domestic sales increase of 11.2%. Profits for the quarter were $3.5 billion.

"I’m very pleased with the progress that we’re making in that," he said. "We mentioned to you that the consent decree that we had designed in conjunction with the FDA was approved and reviewed in October, with very few comments. And given the breadth and scale of that agreement, we felt very good about that. We’ve had teams working hard since then.

NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. — Johnson & Johnson has announced that Alex Gorsky will assume, effective Dec. 28, the chairman title and additional leadership responsibilities for the global health care company. 

Gorsky was appointed CEO of Johnson & Johnson in April 2012. Current chairman Bill Weldon will step down on Dec. 28 and plans to retire in the first quarter of 2013, after a brief transitional period.

The company also is donating three semitrailer truckloads of bottled water to a Red Cross facility in New Brunswick, N.J., to distribute throughout the disaster area. Walgreens stores in the region also are donating merchandise in response to community requests that have come in since the storm’s impact.

SILVER SPRING, Md. — Ranbaxy Labs got the green light from the Food and Drug Administration Wednesday night to launch its generic version of Pfizer's cholesterol-lowering drug Lipitor.

The FDA announced the approval of Ranbaxy's atorvastatin calcium tablets in the 10-mg, 20-mg, 40-mg and 80-mg strengths. New Brunswick, N.J.-based Ohm Labs will manufacture the drug.

NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. — Johnson & Johnson posted decreases in sales for fourth quarter 2010 and for the year, according to an earnings statement released Tuesday.

Sales for the quarter were $15.6 billion, a 5.5% decrease from fourth quarter 2009’s $16.5 billion. Sales for the year were $61.6 billion, down by 0.5% from $61.9 billion in 2009.

Meanwhile, profits for the quarter were $1.9 billion, a 12% decrease from $2.2 billion in fourth quarter 2009. Profits for the year were $13.3 billion, an 8.7% increase over $12.3 billion in 2009.

NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. — Johnson & Johnson made its courtship with Dutch biotech company Crucell official by acquiring all of the company for $2.3 billion, the two companies said Wednesday.

In a deal that won the full support of Crucell’s management, J&J will pay $32.74 per share for the remainder of Crucell that it doesn’t already own; J&J indirectly controls around 18% of Crucell’s stock through a Dutch affiliate, while Delta Lloyd Asset Management, Robeco and the Van Herk Group control around 15.5%, according to published reports.

NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. Johnson & Johnson is recalling millions of packages of over-the-counter drugs for allergies and pain due to manufacturing problems, according to published reports.

The New York Times reported Tuesday that J&J would recall 4 million packages of cherry- and grape-flavored Children’s Benadryl (diphenhydramine) tablets for allergies and 800,000 bottles of children’s Motrin (ibuprofen), a pain drug.

NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. Johnson & Johnson is set to buy up the remaining portion of Dutch biotech company Crucell that it doesn’t already own, J&J said Friday.

 

The drug maker said the two companies were in “advanced negotiations” for J&J to buy up the remainder of Crucell for around $2.3 billion. J&J currently owns slightly less than 18% of the company through an affiliate.
