BOSTON — More and more success at retail is contingent upon delivering what the consumer wants, when she wants it, where she wants it and at the price she wants it.

According to a panel of consumer manufacturers and retail executives from Navarro Discount Pharmacies and Rite Aid, she wants fresh, health and wellness all neatly packaged with a value-priced bow. And she wants it in the drug channel.

MIAMI — Navarro Discount Pharmacy, a Hispanic-owned pharmacy chain and an MBF Healthcare portfolio company, has added e-commerce capabilities to its existing website. The retailer also plans to add in the fall an interactive social media retail forum, video, content on family and health-related topics, and reviews.

Hispanic-owned pharmacy retailer in the United States is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. And it is on an aggressive growth track as it enhances its service offerings and looks to open as many as 21 new stores over the next three years.


MIAMI — Navarro Discount Pharmacy has partnered with Continental National Bank of Miami to open an in-store bank branch inside Navarro's Hialeah Gardens store — marking the first bank in Florida to open an in-store bank in a drug store format.

The mini-bank branch will include two teller windows, an ATM and one service desk where customers can speak with a bank representative. Extended hours will be available for an added convenience.

MIAMI — Recognized for its commitment to the community, Navarro Discount Pharmacies won the Top 100 Minority Business Award for large-company community involvement from the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce.

Navarro received the award during a special luncheon honoring other minority-owned businesses at Jungle Island in Miami on March 24.

MIAMI — Navarro Discount Pharmacies announced on Friday that 20 of its store locations throughout Miami-Dade now feature a SunPass machine, where drivers can buy and activate a SunPass for immediate use. The move comes just prior to all-electronic tolling taking effect in Miami-Dade on Feb. 19.

The "Touch-n-Buy" machines also enable customers to pay Florida Department of Transportation documents, such as citations and late notices.

MIAMI — Navarro Discount Pharmacies and a number of healthcare partners on Jan. 26 hosted a free health fair to kick off Heart Health Awareness Month in February, the pharmacy operator announced Wednesday.

For the approximate 200 people who attended, the event featured lifestyle presentations, information on medical issues, free product samplings from vendors and complimentary heart health screenings, including vascular screenings, body mass index, glucose, cholesterol, blood pressure and UHealth’s Heart Aware Risk Assessments.

MIAMI — With new leadership at the helm, Navarro Discount Pharmacy continues its goal of catering to the needs of the Hispanic community in the Miami area. Navarro is the largest Hispanic-owned drug store chain in the United States, with 28 locations that cater to the Hispanic market through their product offerings and services.


The company, which garnered about $320 million in sales in 2009, tapped in late 2009 former Bigg’s executive Steve Kaczynski to serve as CEO, and has since further bolstered its management team as part of its expansion strategy.


MIAMI Navarro Discount Pharmacies, which operates 28 stores in Miami, has partnered with Sona to provide point-of-sale reporting to all suppliers.

The program will be presented to vendors and suppliers at the Vendor Summit on Oct. 8 hosted by Navarro.
