NEW YORK — Spending on health care will slow down in 2014 despite a flood of new patients who will have insurance, according to a new study.

The PwC Health Research Institute study, titled Medical Cost Trend: Behind the Numbers, forecasts 6.5% inflation in healthcare spending despite the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act adding millions of new patients. The report noted that the slowdown in spending was contrary to the experience of previous recessions.

The Kroger Co. announced this week it raised more than $425,000 from customer and associate contributions and committed to a corporate gift of $50,000 for a total cash contribution of more than $475,000 to support Red Cross initiatives to assist storm relief efforts in Oklahoma.

In addition, Kroger committed to a corporate gift of $50,000 for a total cash contribution of more than $475,000 to support Red Cross initiatives in areas devastated by violent storms, including an EF5 tornado, on May 20.

CVS Caremark's GDR is the result of two elements.  First, 2012 marked a high point in the flood of generic launches, with the estimated market value of brands that lost their patents in 2012 exceeding $35 billion.

AMSTERDAM — Keeping stores open during Hurricane Sandy was one of the factors that contributed to an increase in total store sales and comps in the fourth quarter and fiscal year 2012 for Ahold USA, the supermarket operator's Dutch parent company said Thursday.

Ahold attributed its 4.3% increase in sales in the fourth quarter, to $6.1 billion, partially to the Hurricane Sandy effort. The quarter also saw comps increase by 2.4%, while full year sales were $25.8 billion, a 3.1% over 2011, as comps increased by 1.4%.

But as the map indicates, influenza rates are declining up and down the East Coast and is most virulent in Texas and states west.

AmeriCares announced that it donated the antibiotics, pediatric medicines and other drugs to healthcare providers helping affected families in New York and New Jersey within days of the storm. Actavis was acquired earlier this year by Watson Pharmaceuticals.
