Building on its government affairs and public policy department, the National Association of Chain Drug Stores has hired Christopher Smith, formerly with the National Community Pharmacists Association, as director of federal public policy.

ARLINGTON, Va. — Building on its government affairs and public policy department, the National Association of Chain Drug Stores has hired Christopher Smith, formerly with the National Community Pharmacists Association, as director of federal public policy. 

Smith will report to Kevin Nicholson, VP public policy and regulatory affairs. Smith started his new role with NACDS on Aug. 27.

It’s been a week since the National Association of Chain Drug Stores wrapped up its massive Total Store Expo pow-wow in Las Vegas. Hundreds of retail pharmacy industry vendors have broken down their exhibits and cleared the cavernous Sands Expo Center for the next big event. By last Wednesday, the exodus of more than 5,700 exhausted conference-goers from Sin City had slowed to a trickle.

Following the completion of the inaugural NACDS Total Store Expo at the Sands Expo and Convention Center, exhibitors donated 6,000 lbs. of consumer goods to be dispersed to various charitable organizations throughout the Las Vegas area, NACDS has announced.

The National Association of Chain Drug Stores has announced the winners of the 2013 NACDS Total Store Expo Product Showcase.

The 160 products, ranging from health and beauty to seasonal items, were on display in the “Product Showcase” on the exhibit floor.

The National Association of Chain Drug Stores is urging lawmakers to examine “commonsense, pro-patient, pro-pharmacy reforms” in an effort to modernize the Medicare program for beneficiaries.

ARLINGTON, Va. — The National Association of Chain Drug Stores is urging lawmakers to examine “commonsense, pro-patient, pro-pharmacy reforms” in an effort to modernize the Medicare program for beneficiaries.

In a statement NACDS sent to the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Ways and Means Subcommittee on Health, the Association is urging “commonsense” approaches to Medicare reform and emphasizing community pharmacy’s role in improving heath and controlling costs.

Petraeus (U.S. Army, Retired), former director of the Central Intelligence Agency and former commander of coalition forces in Iraq and Afghanistan, as the keynote speaker for the 2013 NACDS Foundation Dinner. The dinner will take place on Dec. 3, 2013, in New York City.

During Sunday morning’s Business Program, the National Association of Chain Drug Stores bestowed its highest honor — the Harold W. Pratt Award — to Dennis Wiesner. Wiesner currently serves as senior director for privacy, pharmacy and governmental affairs with H-E-B, which he joined in 1987. In addition to his role as past-chair and current member of the NACDS Policy Council, he has and continues to serve in several professional organizations.

More than 70% of physicians participate in the state’s medical home program.

Cardinal Health and the National Association of Chain Drug Stores Foundation are calling for proposals to research the effects of pharmacist-provided medication therapy management services on hospital readmission rates.

Medications only do their jobs if patients take them as instructed by physicians, but physicians' ability to ensure that patients are doing what they're supposed to is limited. That's where pharmacists can step in to help make a difference.

ARLINGTON, Va. — The National Association of Chain Drug Stores announced on Friday that registration for the 2014 NACDS Annual Meeting is now open.

The meeting will take place April 26 to 29, 2014 in Scottsdale, Ariz., and online registration is accessible by visiting the NACDS Annual Meeting website.

Arlington, Va. —  The National Association of Chain Drug Stores Foundation, in partnership with the Cardinal Health Foundation, has issued a request-for-proposals to research the impact of integrating community pharmacist-provided medication management services into the hospital discharge process.

The move comes in light of the increasing focus on the public health cost of hospital readmissions. Two research grants of up to $600,000 each are expected to be awarded.
