PORT WASHINGTON, N.Y. — BB creams, which also are referred to as “blemish balms” or “beauty balms,” have experienced significant growth in the past several months, according a new report by market research company the NPD Group.

BB creams are relatively new, multifunctional products that combine the functionality of primers, SPF and moisturizers, along with the anti-aging benefits of skin serums. In the 12 months ended in March, BB creams sold in U.S. department stores generated close to $9 million, according to NPD.

A recent study by market research company NPD Group found that most men are using some sort of grooming product today, such as shave, hair care and fragrance; however, only 25% of men are currently using facial skin care products.

The findings suggest that the market is poised for growth, but noted that the challenge is getting him involved and engaged. 


The challenges have not gone unnoticed by FaceLube, a new men’s grooming and skin care line that is taking a unique approach to engaging him.

U.S. prestige beauty posted its highest sales results in 15 years, with all beauty categories surpassing pre-recession levels, according to market research firm NPD Group.

U.S. prestige beauty posted its highest sales results in 15 years, with all beauty categories surpassing pre-recession levels, according to market research firm NPD Group. According to NPD’s beauty market research, total U.S. prestige beauty generated $9.5 billion in 2011, an increase of 11% in dollars. This compares with $8.6 billion in 2010.

Beauty market research company the NPD Group recently reported that total prestige makeup dollar sales in U.S. department stores were on the rise during the first 10 months of 2011, and gift sets proved to be no exception.

Beauty market research company the NPD Group recently reported that total prestige makeup dollar sales in U.S. department stores were on the rise during the first 10 months of 2011, and gift sets proved to be no exception.

Between January and October, total prestige makeup dollar sales in U.S. department stores were $2.8 million, an increase of 8% in dollars compared with the same time last year. All prestige segments saw dollar growth.

Drug stores continue to offer more fresh grocery items. “Fresh fruit and vegetables are top grocery categories. There’s high demand for the products, and the size of the market is huge. PORT WASHINGTON, N.Y. — Those within the mass-market beauty industry are wise not to rest on their laurels, as research indicates that sales of prestige makeup and skin care in U.S. department stores surpassed pre-recession volume in the first half of 2011, according to market research company the NPD Group.

In first half 2011 (January through June), prestige women’s and men’s skin care dollar sales increased 14% and 9%, respectively, compared with first half 2008. Prestige makeup sales increased as well, nearly 4%, compared with pre-recessionary levels.

After years of declines, U.S. prestige beauty experienced a boost in 2010, with skin care proving yet again to be the strongest performer, according to beauty market research conducted by the NPD Group.

PORT WASHINGTON — After years of declines, U.S. prestige beauty experienced a boost in 2010, with skin care proving yet again to be the strongest performer, according to beauty market research conducted by the NPD Group.

The market research company stated that U.S. prestige beauty generated $8.4 billion in 2010, up 4%, compared with $8.19 billion in 2009.
