According to SymphonyIRI Group, sales of suntan lotions and oils rose more than 2% to $388.67 million during the 12 weeks ended July 8 at food, drug and mass (excluding Walmart).

The Food and Drug Administration has approved a new formulation of a painkiller made by Endo Pharmaceuticals designed to thwart drug abuse, Endo said Monday.

CHADDS FORD, Pa. — The Food and Drug Administration has approved a new formulation of a painkiller made by Endo Pharmaceuticals designed to thwart drug abuse, Endo said Monday.

Endo announced the FDA's approval of a crush-resistant version of Opana ER (oxymorphone). Drug abusers often crush opioid pills in order to smoke, inhale or inject them. Endo developed the new formulation of the drug, scheduled for launch in 2012, using Grunenthal's Intac technology. The new version will otherwise be identical to the old one.

The Federal Trade Commission announced on Wednesday that it has reached a settlement with Beiersdorf, the maker of Nivea, regarding advertising claims of its Nivea My Silhouette! skin cream.

WASHINGTON — The Federal Trade Commission announced on Wednesday that it has reached a settlement with Beiersdorf, the maker of Nivea, regarding advertising claims of its Nivea My Silhouette! skin cream.

The FTC administrative complaint charged Beiersdorf with falsely claiming that by regularly applying Nivea My Silhouette! cream to the skin, consumers could slim down. According to the complaint, Beiersdorf marketed the skin cream in nationwide television ads and through sponsored search results on Google. As part of the settlement, Beiersdorf has agreed to pay $900,000.

CINCINNATI — Procter & Gamble is taking its packaging for three of its laundry products to the past.

The company said that its Bounce, Downy and Tide brands will sport a retro look for a limited time, giving a nod to P&G's past advertising for the products.

Tide, Bounce and Downy vintage packages will be available at Target from May 22 through June 10. What's more, P&G will feature $1-off coupons for Tide and Bounce and 75-cent coupons for Downy in Sunday newspapers nationwide on May 29.
