The specialty pharmacy said MedImpact Healthcare Systems had named it a ChoiceSpecialty provider and one of the preferred pharmacy providers of hepatitis C medications to MedImpact members.

MINNEAPOLIS — A pharmacy chain based in Minnesota is offering a new mobile app and web portal for its retail customers under a partnership with San Francisco-based Mscripts, the chain said Tuesday.

Fairview Pharmacy Services, which runs about 30 retail pharmacies across the state and also specialty, compounding and mail-order facilities, said the new app would allow customers to scan and refill prescriptions, receive pickup and dosage reminders and locate stores and specials. Non-smartphone users will have a text-messaging option.

SILVER SPRING, Md. — The Food and Drug Administration has approved a generic contraceptive drug made by Famy Care, agency records show.

The agency approved Famy's levonorgestrel and ethinyl estradiol tablets in the 0.02-mg/0.1-mg strengths.

The drug is a generic version of Aviane-28, made by Teva Women's Health, a division of Israeli drug maker Teva Pharmaceutical Industries that previously went under the name Duramed.

PHILADELPHIA — The Food and Drug Administration has approved a pain drug made by Iroko Pharmaceuticals, Iroko said.

The drug maker announced the approval of Zorvolex (diclofenac) capsules for mild to moderate acute pain in adults. The drug is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug, or NSAID, belonging to the same class as the common analgesic drug ibuprofen. Zorvolex was approved at dosage strengths 20% lower than currently available diclofenac products, the company said.

The Mast pharmacies previously operated under the name of Wooster Rx in Wooster, Ohio, and Mast Pharmacy in Berlin, Millersburg, Shreve and Sugarcreek, Ohio, but will be converted to Ritzman banners, the companies stated.

The two companies said the partnership would offer MedImpact clients "a unique and effective solution for bending the cost curve," and was aimed at providing benefit payers with a proven and effective cancer pharmacy program that combines a cost-effective dispensing model with "clinical excellence."

In a memo sent out to staff, Center for Drug Evaluation and Research director Janet Woodcock wrote that she would not retire, but was becoming "more deeply involved" in such activities as proposed reorganizations of the Office of Pharmaceutical Quality and the Office of Generic Drugs.

PHOENIX — A managed Medicaid health plan has selected Avella Specialty Pharmacy as its preferred specialty pharmacy partner, Avella said Wednesday.
