More than 15,300 people attended the 2013 Sweets & Snacks Expo at Chicago's McCormick Place last month, representing a more than 10% increase in attendees over 2012, the organization that sponsors the trade show said.

NEW YORK — More than 15,300 people attended the 2013 Sweets & Snacks Expo at Chicago's McCormick Place last month, representing a more than 10% increase in attendees over 2012, the organization that sponsors the trade show said.

The National Confectioners Association said that the expo, which took place May 21 to 23, included 164 new exhibitors, compared with 140 last year, and sold 157,100 sq. ft. of space, a 9% increase over last year's 144,000 sq. ft. This year, 15,389 industry professionals attended, compared with last year's 14,010.

WASHINGTON — A show devoted to snack food is expected to draw suppliers from 22 countries when it kicks off in May, the show's sponsoring organization said.

The 2013 Sweets & Snacks Expo, which will take place May 21-23 at Chicago's McCormick Place, is expected to be the most successful in the event's 16-year history, with a nearly sold-out show floor, according to the National Confectioners Association.

Global flavorings leader McCormick named Eli Lilly executive Jacques Tapiero to its board.

SPARKS, Md. — Global flavorings leader McCormick named Eli Lilly executive Jacques Tapiero to its board.

Tapiero has served as SVP and president of emerging markets for Lilly since 2009 and brings more than 25 years of international business experience to the $3.5 billion spice company. Tapiero currently leads Lilly's business strategy in many of the world's fastest-growing markets, such as China, Russia, Brazil, Mexico, South Korea and Turkey. He is a member of Lilly's executive committee.

DEERFIELD, Ill. — Walgreens on Friday announced it is hosting a Walgreens Pavilion at The Black Women’s Expo this weekend at McCormick Place. Activities will include free health screenings from the AARP/Walgreens Wellness Tour bus, one-on-one health consultations, free samples of popular beauty products and networking opportunities for diverse companies interested in doing business with Walgreens. Flu shots also will be available for $10.
