CONCORD, Mass. The maker of Concord and Niagara grape-based products has named a former Gillette executive as its new chief marketing officer.

Matthew Wohl joined Welch's last week, following a 16-year career at Gillette, where he lead product development, innovation, new product launches and marketing communications for a number of brands including Mach3, Fusion and most recently the 2010 launch of Fusion ProGlide razors.

CINCINNATI Gain is moving beyond the laundry room with two new products.

As previously reported by Drug Store News, new Gain dishwashing liquid and an expanded Febreze with Gain collection now are available at stores nationwide. Gain dishwashing liquid is the first dish brand to be launched by Procter & Gamble in 37 years, the company said, while the Febreze with Gain original scent will include fabric refresher, Air Effects, candles and Noticeables.

YONKERS, N.Y. Shoppers shouldn't overlook store brands if they are looking for quality and ways to save money, according to a new Consumer Reports study.

Consumer Reports' price study -- which appears in the publication's October issue -- evaluated five supermarket chains and compared store- and name-brand prices for 30 everyday items at five chains, collecting a total of 283 price quotes. Consumer Reports found the average savings with store brands was 30%, but shoppers saved as much as 52% on some items.

BROOMFIELD, Colo. LifeNexus recently introduced its personal health card, a dual-purpose payment/loyalty card that comes equipped with an embedded microprocessor, the iChip, designed for an individually controlled health platform.

 

The personal health card can be used to maintain personal health records by securely transferring accurate information at the time and point of need. This will allow professionals access to a patient’s personal health record through card-based consumer authorization, which is both encrypted and password-protected.

BOSTON A maker of mobile loyalty card applications launched one of its popular smart phone apps for the Apple iPad.

CardStar's app is designed to connect merchants, brands and consumers through existing rewards card programs, the company said. Since launching in 2009, CardStar's app has had 2 million downloads and currently services more than 700,000 active users.

LOS ANGELES Reed's is updating its beverage line's packaging with new swing-top bottles.

 

"We find that people love the old-style European craftsmanship of swing-top bottles and are willing to pay a premium for them," stated Chris Reed, founder, chairman and CEO of Reed's. "For many years, we had to go to Europe to get production of the swing-lid bottles.We are now pleased that we can offer domestic swing-lid production for our brands and select private-label customers."
