RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. Watson Pharmaceuticals biotech subsidiary Eden Biodesign has signed a manufacturing agreement with Dutch biotech company Crucell that will give Watson access to Crucell’s cell line technology, the two companies announced Wednesday.

 

Under the agreement, Eden will provide process development and current good manufacturing practice services using Crucell’s PER.C6 technology to licensees using the technology to develop vaccines and gene therapies.

LONDON British drug maker GlaxoSmithKline will pay nearly $1 billion to the U.S. government to settle allegations that it sold contaminated and ineffective products.

 

The company will plead guilty to criminal charges relating to drugs made at a manufacturing plant in Cidra, Puerto Rico, which it closed in 2009, and pay $750 million. In a whistleblower suit filed by a former employee, it was alleged that the company knowingly sold defective supplies of various drugs, including the baby ointment Bactroban (mupirocin) and the antidepressant Paxil (paroxetine).

Unlike many spray mops on the market, Rubbermaid Reveal’s spray bottle is refillable, an economically friendly feature that allows consumers to mix their own cleaning solutions for a savings of up to $50 annually. The reusable microfiber pad is machine washable and can be used up to 100 times.

LONDON Swiss drug maker Lonza will help British drug maker GlaxoSmithKline manufacture five biotech drugs in early- and mid-stage clinical trials, the two companies said Wednesday.

 

Lonza will manufacture clinical trial batches of the drugs, all monoclonal antibodies in phase-1 and phase-2 testing, and provide additional access to manufacturing capacity so GSK can fulfill future demands. The two companies said other details of the agreement remain confidential.

The new compacted detergents provide consumers with the same number of loads in a detergent carton that is smaller, resulting in a convenient product that is easy to handle and store. The compacted formulas and smaller cartons also allow for increased efficiency, including reduced fuel consumption and a reduction in packaging.
