Walgreens promotes Mia Scholz

Walgreens last month promoted Mia Scholz from corporate VP accounting and controller to SVP accounting and controller.

CHICAGO — Walgreens last month promoted Mia Scholz from corporate VP accounting and controller to SVP accounting and controller.

Scholz joined Walgreens in 1999 as director of internal audit. She was named a divisional VP in 2003, and was promoted to corporate VP accounting and controller in 2007.

Before joining Walgreens, Scholz was a senior manager for Arthur Andersen LLP in Chicago. She received a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, in 1988.

Kraft appoints EVP strategy

Kraft Foods on Wednesday named a former Bain & Co. executive to the position of EVP strategy, effective Jan. 29.

NORTHFIELD, Ill. — Kraft Foods on Wednesday named a former Bain & Co. executive to the position of EVP strategy, effective Jan. 29.

Sam Rovit succeeds Michael Osanloo, who was named president of Kraft Foods' North American grocery business. Rovit, a 20-year business veteran with global growth and cost leadership strategy experience, will report to chairman and CEO Irene Rosenfeld and be a member of the company's executive team.

Consumers shift ‘scents’ to mass

NEW YORK — A shift in consumer shopping is helping to fuel sales of women’s fragrances at mass.


“Consumers are shifting their fragrance purchasing from high-end channels, such as department stores, to more mass-market channels, such as drug stores and supermarkets/hypermarkets,” stated research firm Euromonitor International. “While department stores have suffered a drop in foot traffic during the recession, store formats such as supermarkets/hypermarkets and mass merchandisers selling necessities have seen steady traffic levels.”

The research firm’s "Top Health Industry Issues of 2011" report, based on a nationwide survey of 1,000 adults in the United States, identified six major issues facing health organizations:

  1. Record spending on health information technology will drive demand for skilled professionals in this area, increased roles for chief information officers and industry consolidation.
