The National Association of Chain Drug Stores has announced that Haley Barbour, former governor of Mississippi and former chairman of the Republican Governor’s Association, will be the keynote for the NACDS Chain Members and Political Action Committee Breakfast at the 2014 NACDS Annual Meeting.

ARLINGTON, Va. — The National Association of Chain Drug Stores has announced that Haley Barbour, former governor of Mississippi and former chairman of the Republican Governor’s Association, will be the keynote for the NACDS Chain Members and Political Action Committee Breakfast at the 2014 NACDS Annual Meeting. 

The 2014 NACDS Annual Meeting will be held April 26 to 29 in Scottsdale, Ariz. Barbour will address breakfast attendees on April 28.

Beauty company Revlon announced that net sales were essentially flat during the second quarter due, in part, to continued softness in its Almay brand.

NEW YORK — Beauty company Revlon announced on Wednesday that net sales were essentially flat during the second quarter due, in part, to continued softness in its Almay brand.

During its conference call with analysts Wednesday morning, the company also announced that Bob Kretzman, chief administrative officer, will retire at the end of September, following a 25-year career at Revlon. Kretzman will join Revlon's board of directors, effective Oct. 1.

The Food and Drug Administration has approved what it called the second new drug in two months for a form of leukemia, the agency said Friday.

SILVER SPRING, Md. — The Food and Drug Administration has approved what it called the second new drug in two months for a form of leukemia, the agency said Friday.

The FDA announced the approval of Teva Pharmaceutical Industries' Synribo (omacetaxine mepesuccinate) for chronic myelogenous leukemia, or CML, a disease that the National Institutes of Health expects will be diagnosed in more than 5,400 people this year. The drug is intended for patients whose disease has progressed after treatment with at least two drugs of a class used to treat the disease.

The Food and Drug Administration has approved a new drug for treating a rare blood and marrow cancer that affects older adults, the agency said Tuesday.

SILVER SPRING, Md. — The Food and Drug Administration has approved a new drug for treating a rare blood and marrow cancer that affects older adults, the agency said Tuesday.

The FDA announced the approval of Pfizer's Bosulif (bosutinib) for chronic myelogenous leukemia, or CML. According to the FDA, about 5,430 men and women will be diagnosed with CML this year.

The drug is designed for patients with chronic, accelerated or blast-phase Philadelphia chromosome-positive CML, who can't tolerate other therapies or for whom those therapies don't work.

CAMP HILL, Pa. — Rite Aid’s philanthropic arm is donating to relief efforts in Japan.

The Rite Aid Foundation announced Wednesday that it was donating $50,000 to the American Red Cross' Japan earthquake fund.

“Our hearts go out to the victims, families and communities affected by this devastating tragedy,” Rite Aid Foundation president Mary Sammons said. “We are proud to partner with the American Red Cross and assist them in their mission of helping the people of Japan in their time of need.”
