MUMBAI, India — The Food and Drug Administration has approved a contraceptive therapy made by Lupin Pharmaceuticals, the Indian drug maker said Friday.

Lupin announced the approval of Daysee (levonorgestrel and ethinyl estradiol tablets and ethinyl estradiol tablets) in the 0.15-mg/0.03-mg and 0.01-mg strengths.

The drug is a generic version of Teva's Seasonique. Various versions of the drug had sales of $161 million in 2012, according to IMS Health.

Lupin announced the approval of levonorgestrel and ethinyl estradiol tablets in the 0.1 mg/0.02 mg strength, a generic version of Watson Labs' Lutera.

Lutera had sales of about $103.6 million during the 12-month period that ended in September 2012, according to IMS Health.

BALTIMORE — Lupin Pharmaceuticals has launched a generic drug for cholesterol disorders, the company said.

Lupin announced the launch of fenofibrate tablets in the 48-mg and 145-mg strengths. The drug is used to treat hypercholesterolemia or mixed dyslipidemia and severe hypertriglyceridemia.

The drug is a generic version of Abbott's Tricor, which had sales of $1.26 billion during the 12-month period ended in June, according to IMS Health.

The Indian drug maker announced the approval of escitalopram tablets in the 5-mg, 10-mg and 20-mg strengths, used for acute and maintenance treatment of major depressive disorder in adults and adolescents and for acute treatment of general anxiety disorder in adults.

Lupin announced the approval of pregabalin capsules in the 25-mg, 50-mg, 75-mg, 100-mg, 150-mg, 200-mg, 225-mg and 300-mg strengths. The drug is used to treat fibromyalgia, partial-onset seizures in adults, neuropathic pain associated with diabetic peripheral neuropathy and post-herpetic neuralgia.

The drug is a generic version of Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo, made by Johnson & Johnson subsidiary Janssen Pharmaceuticals. The branded version of the drug had sales of about $421 million during the 12-month period ended in March, according to IMS Health.

BALTIMORE — The Food and Drug Administration has approved a new dosage of an antibiotic drug made by Lupin Pharmaceuticals, Lupin said Tuesday.

The Mumbai, India-based drug maker announced the approval of Suprax (cefixime) capsules in the 400-mg strength and plans to start shipping the drug "in the near future." The new approval adds to existing suspensions containing 100 mg per 5 mL and 200 mg per 5 mL.

The drug is used to treat infections such as pneumonia, gonorrhea and others.

The FDA approved Lupin’s metformin hydrochloride extended-release tablets, a generic version of Andrx Labs’ Fortamet.
