Supermarket chain Raley's is partnering with a web portal that offers discounts to members of the chain's loyalty card program.

SACRAMENTO — Supermarket chain Raley's is partnering with a web portal that offers discounts to members of the chain's loyalty card program.

Aisle50 announced the partnership with the California-based chain, which will offer it at all its 120 Raley's Bel Air and Nob Hill Foods locations. Aisle50 works by allowing customers to purchase items online and then pick them up in the store, receiving discounts using their loyalty cards.

CVS Caremark plans to shorten the length of in-store receipts members of its ExtraCare loyalty program receive by about 25%. In a recent Facebook posting, CVS announced that in response to customer complaints it had found a way to shorten the length of receipts without reducing the amount of ExtraCare rewards and savings offered on them.

In addition, next year CVS will allow ExtraCare members to receive all rewards and savings directly to their card. Currently only select offers can be stored paperlessly on ExtraCare cards.

Members of Sears Holdings Corp.'s loyalty program can increase their reward points by linking certain credit and debit cards to their accounts, the retailer said Monday.

HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. — Members of Sears Holdings Corp.'s loyalty program can increase their reward points by linking certain credit and debit cards to their accounts, the retailer said Monday.

The company said members of the Sears and Kmart Shop Your Way program could link up to three eligible Visa cards to their account and use it at any number of Reward Partner merchants, such as Burger King, Popeyes, Louisiana Kitchen, Picture People, Public Storage and 1-800-Flowers.com.

A new system allows members of Sears Holdings' Shop Your Way loyalty program to donate the same way they would give to a wedding registry.

HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. — A new system allows members of Sears Holdings' Shop Your Way loyalty program to donate the same way they would give to a wedding registry.

The Charity Gift Registry allows customers to purchase an item and donate it to a child in need in the store, through mobile or online. Items include sports equipment, yard games, puzzles, toys, art supplies and board games. Share Our Strength's No Kind Hungry campaign is the first cause to be supported by the registry. The group aims to end childhood hunger by providing children with healthy food.

Calendar 2013 sales to date were $42 billion, an increase of 3.4%, while fiscal year-to-date sales totaled $66.1 billion, up 0.4%..

Kmart is offering savings on gas to members of its loyalty program who purchase Procter & Gamble products, the mass merchandise retailer said.

HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. — Kmart is offering savings on gas to members of its loyalty program who purchase Procter & Gamble products, the mass merchandise retailer said.

Kmart said members of the Shop Your Way loyalty program could benefit from the offer at select stores and participating BP and Speedway gas stations through Saturday. Members who buy $50 in P&G products will receive a coupon allowing them to save $1 per gallon. Customers can save 30 cents per gallon at other times of the year.

HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. — Sears is offering electronic coupons for back-to-school shopping that it's calling the first of their kind.

The retailer announced Monday that it was the first retailer to offer "eCoupons" that can be redeemed in the store, online and from a mobile device, personalized for members of the Shop Your Way loyalty program based on their interests, style preferences and shopping habits. Members can download the coupons at ShopYourWay.com or through the mobile app and receive rewards like 2% back in points when using their Sears MasterCard.

Loblaw Cos. and Shoppers Drug Mart signed a definitive agreement under which Loblaw will acquire Shoppers Drug Mart. The move follows the acquisition of Safeway Canada by Sobey's last month and a growing incursion of U.S. retail north of the border, including both Target Canada and Walmart Canada.

When Loblaw announced last week it would debut a new health-focused format to take on Whole Foods, no one could have expected it would make a deal to become the No. 1 pharmacy retailer in Canada, leapfrogging from No. 8 to that top spot with the stroke of a pen. Together the companies will operate 1,797 pharmacies across a total of 2,348 locations, meaning 1-in-5 Canadian pharmacies now will be operated by the merged company. Shoppers Drug Mart represents $4.9 billion in annual pharmacy sales, representing 47.3% of sales and $3.9 million in pharmacy sales on a per store basis. And if Loblaw's pharmacy sales are brought up to that level, the merged companies will represent $6.8 billion in pharmacy revenue.

Kroger on Tuesday announced a definitive merger agreement under which Kroger will purchase all outstanding shares of Harris Teeter for $49.38 per share in cash as part of a deal valued upward of $2.5 billion.

CINCINNATI — Kroger on Tuesday announced a definitive merger agreement under which Kroger will purchase all outstanding shares of Harris Teeter for $49.38 per share in cash as part of a deal valued upward of $2.5 billion. 

The transaction price represents a premium of 33.7% to the Harris Teeter closing share price on Jan. 18, 2013, the day of the first media report that Harris Teeter was evaluating strategic alternatives. The terms of the agreement were approved by the boards of both companies.

A recent KPMG survey found that almost half (40%) of retailers will be looking to invest in technology to help grow their respective businesses. And engaging the customer through social media and loyalty apps may become significant, as 37% of retailers expect customer retention is the key to growth while 35% suggested adding to their customer bases is key.

It further illustrates the fact that marketers need to take an omnichannel approach to engage today's consumers.

That significance within social media and loyalty apps is simple, really. Marketers can't expect to generate a trip if they're not effectively reaching the consumer with their marketing messages. After all that's the underlying premise of omnichannel retailing — reaching the consumer with a shopping solution wherever, whenever and however she wants that solution, and then personalizing that solution with the help of big data analytics.
