CVS Caremark announced on Tuesday that it has finalized with the Securities and Exchange Commission a settlement that was previously announced in August 2013.

WOONSOCKET, R.I. — CVS Caremark announced on Tuesday that it has finalized with the Securities and Exchange Commission a settlement that was previously announced in August 2013.

The settlement was entered into on a "no admit or deny basis" and will not require CVS Caremark to restate its earnings for any reporting period. The company stated that the matter is now fully resolved.

Robert M. Long, former president, CEO and chairman of Longs Drug Stores passed away March 27 due to complications, which occurred as a result of inclusion body myositis.

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. — Robert M. Long, former president, CEO and chairman of Longs Drug Stores passed away March 27 due to complications, which occurred as a result of inclusion body myositis.  

Long was a well-known industry veteran having led Longs Drug Stores for more than 20 years. His retirement from the Walnut Creek, Calif.-based pharmacy retailer as CEO in 2000 marked the first time that a member of the founding family was not heading the company.

It is the first of seven MinuteClinic locations to open inside select Longs Drug stores on Oahu in the next two weeks. Additional clinics will serve patients in Aiea, Hawaii Kai, Kailua, Kaneohe, Kapolei and Waialae, the company stated.

The Honolulu Star-Advertiser reported that the first MinuteClinic in Hawaii will open at the Moiliili store in Honolulu. On Sept. 30, locations in Kahala, Aiea, Kapolei, Hawaii Kai, Kaneohe and Kailua are scheduled to open.

WOONSOCKET, R.I. — CVS Caremark is reportedly looking to expand outside of the United States by acquiring Onofre, the eighth-largest pharmacy chain in Brazil, according to published reports.

The Valor Economico newspaper reported that CVS Caremark plans to pay $313 million to acquire an 80% stake in Onofre and will also assume the company's debt.

“We don’t comment on market rumors,” CVS Caremark spokesman Mike DeAngelis told Drug Store News.

Effective Nov. 5, Hanley Wheeler, SVP operations has assumed responsibility of CVS/pharmacy’s Western and Southwestern markets while continuing to have responsibility for the company’s retail operations in its Midwest and Southeast markets.
